So I went home during my lunch hour today to find dark spots on the carpet in the basement. At first I wondered what did my kids spill down here now. I look up to see dark liquid splattered all over the closet door. Hmmmm, that's not good. What is going on here?!?! Then I see a large dark spot all around the bottom of a six pack holder on the carpet holding bottles of Uncle Jacobs. Looking closer I see one of the bottles has a gaping hole in the side about 3 inches in diameter. The side of the bottle just blew out launching dark stout all over my basement. Needless to say I spent the rest of my lunch hour cleaning it up. I'm hoping this is an isolated incident but I put the rest of the bottles in the fridge for now. I didn't think that Uncle Jacobs was bottle conditioned but I could be wrong.
That sucks. I've got some in my car right now...you're making me nervous. I bet this is an isolated event though...at least I really hope.
It made it ok. I passed it off to its rightful owner this afternoon. I was nervous after seeing this thread though.
Curious. Hiphopj5, do you live in the area? If so, are you able to stop by so we can give you a replacement? It looks like a bottle fault to me, though it's difficult to be sure just from a picture. Uncle Jacob's is not bottle conditioned, and we do a *lot* of lab tests on it. Over the months that UJ is in the barrels, our lab is taking samples of it and actively trying to get anything to ferment in it. Saccharomyces strains, Brettanomyces strains, our house pedio, etc. And we've been unable to get anything to grow/ferment/live in UJ or Rumpkin. So at this point I'm assuming that it's a random bottle fault, which can happen every so often. But if anyone else encounters this sort of thing, please let us know... Hiphopj5, feel free to email me at [email protected] and we'll try to make it up to you. Rock on...
Agree, with the breakage lines, looks like bottle fault. I have had blowouts similar, on the bottom, but the side like that is just weird.
