I'm sure they'll get the same amount of KBS they got last year. Just reaffirms why I don't shop there or their parent store Red Wagon.

A buddy of mine called the Red Wagon in Rochester when KBS was released, they were selling 4pks for $50. No surprise this happened, awful people. Makes me appreciate the good people at Holiday and 8* a lot more.

From Founders Brewing Company's Facebook page: Someone else informed us about this as well--as you mentioned, we cannot control retailer pricing, but we have passed this along to our market manager in the area who will bring it to the attention of our distributor partner.

That "someone else" was me  My response from Founders on FB:

    Founders Brewing Co.
Thanks for letting us know about this KBS pricing issue. We cannot legally control retailer pricing, but we can let our distributor partners know about situations like this so that they can take it into account for future allocations. I have passed this along to our distributor partner in the SE Michigan area, and he will follow up from there.
    Cheers,

Perhaps it wasn't a bad thing that everyone piled on. Often times if you have the time to post something on social media, you have time to send the store a private message and give them the chance to correct it. Given how they paraded it on facebook and their affiliation with Red Wagon (who are not new to craft beer), their practices appear to be more deliberate and a simple message wasn't going to force any action.

While from a business perspective, I can't blame a company for wanting to increase profits, it's just a shame that often time the people on the wrong end of that stick are new craft beer drinkers who don't know any better and shop at the places who gouge, not knowing there are large volume stores with fair prices such as Holiday.

Well, they did get completely ripped in the comments. Hopefully Founders can make arrangements with their distrbituor to avoid this. At my store, the distributor sets the price anyway...we never change what they set the retail to (which is what "minimum state pricing" or "lowest price allowed by law" actually means).

i've been there before and won't go back. i called and asked for a certain beer they said they had it & they'd hold it for me. i got there within 15 minutes and they said it was gone. Told me I should have gotten there faster. The arrogance they and red wagon have is ridiculous. BTW, Founders won't do anything and neither will the distributor. Red Wagon sells way too much beer for either to care less about a one time incident. If I knew there were people out there willing to pay $20 for a KBS, I'd have em line up and I'd sell the 16 or so i have, lol. it's not good enough to be a $20 bottle in my opinion. a lot of hype. i couldn't fathom ****** people like that. poor business practice. even in a bar it's an $8.00 bottle maximum in my opinion. the actual cost of a bottle is $3.75 if i remember correctly. and don't get me started on businesses that make you buy a 4 or 6 pack just to buy 1 bottle at $6-$7. drives me crazy

Places do this because there's always some moron out there who's willing to pay it. Just like ticket scalpers.

    Just say no.

They are not gouging btw, is it a heavily inflated price yes, but gouging no. As much as I like KBS, it is not a necessity.

I'd love to hear your definition of gouging... 250% is enough for me to call it that

I guess I disagree with most of you, if you can get it why not? As someone who lives in a 'beer desert' in Arizona I do not have access to almost all the popular beers on this site. Other than some FW which is pretty much the only thing I can trade I buy beer I want to try on-line. I've seen 4-packs of KBS sell for $75 plus shipping on this site and I just paid $100 for a 4 pack of 2011 BCBS. The going rate for Rare is $250 and CBS is $150 right now, these are buying not asking prices. Some people might think that is crazy but there are plenty of people buying and selling on-line because people like me don't have a choice if we want to expand outside our distribution. Even so I think that guy learned his lesson after getting shit all over on Facebook, should have sold it anonymously on-line I guess.
