A guy I mule for sends me new shippers and I swear to god there are puncture wounds in brand new boxes. I'm guessing they drop kick boxes to move them and use baseball bats to launch them down stairs...

I am amazed that local law enforcement would get involved in this, since no laws were broken. Really, really, amazed, in the same way many stories I read on internet forums amaze me.

It sounds like you knew you underpacked, so let this be a lesson learned. After you pack, drop your box on the floor from holding it at your waist. If that thought scares you, you haven't packed enough. Because your box is likely going to be tossed from that height numerous times in transit.

Nothing to be gained from complaining to the store, just don't go there anymore. If you put the shipping charge on your credit card, just file a chargeback with the credit card company, it will be an easy win.

I would be careful doing chargebacks.

As far as I know there is nothing stopping the company from sending you to collections if they lose the chargeback dispute (although they may win anyways). Many companies do this and I've seen people's credit destroyed over piddly shit.

I know this isn't the point Iof the thread, but how poorly do you have to pack a box to get it broken at the damned shipping location??? Is there a you tube video teaching people how to pack boxes of beer somewhere?

Having just had a "thick ass growler" (ok, it was a howler) crumble to pieces while sitting undisturbed on a counter at home, I think it's entirely possible that the issue may have been the glass itself rather than the packing job.

Sometimes growlers break without even being touched. I would never ship one myself and am even scared to get one filled now (scared that I'd lose money and beer and have a mess to clean up) after recent experiences.

This is what you get for shipping beer in an area that doesn't average around 1 murder per day. Perhaps you should relocate?

Anybody can send anything they want to a collection agency just because they feel like it, but it's not even close to worth the cost for small items. A collection agency is going to cost you more than that $20 in shipping fees, so there's not much point.

In the realm of practicality, a store won't even fight a chargeback that's less than $50. It usually costs $25-$50 just to file the paperwork and attempt to fight it, plus the time and effort required (and that is a major pain in the ass of paperwork), and the fact that consumers win about 85% of chargebacks. I've dealt with this crap a lot, and the credit card companies and the laws are heavily slanted in favor of consumers.

And in this case, services were not rendered, so it's open-shut in favor of the consumer.

I wouldn't worry too much about a negative credit report filed without my SSN... if it even caused an impact it should be easy to dispute/remove, especially something like this. (Services not rendered as paid for)

Wait, you tried shipping a growler that you'd previously dropped off a counter, and now you're wondering how it broke?
