My guess is that most muling is done to resell.

If it is a share/trade situation who cares. If mules are outrageously taxing products that are not theirs and turning a profit then It's a dick move. But hey don't we see that each day in govt? Don't pay too much attention to it and keep the blood pressure down. Pay attention to the market and you shall stay a step ahead and get to those gems you seek before the mercenary mules. If you miss out dont be a cry baby and go drink something else the hunt is part of the fun.

How is muling any different than trading? I got 6 bottles of DL this year and sold 2 at cost to a friend on the west coast. Would it be preferred I post a FT and try to trade **** someone? It's essentially a trade just more open ended and I'd much rather do a trade with someone I know or have traded with in the past anyway.

I do agree it's a gray area as far as intent. Taking my girlfriend along (who btw loves beer) and buying full alotments to get a few bottles for friends located far away is a lot different than hiring 8 bums hanging out on the street to stand in line or taking mules who have no interest in craft beer then selling the extras at an upcharge.

Basically it comes down to if you are getting the beer, you love muling. If you get shut out of the beer, you are morally opposed to it.

When I "mule" stuff it is only myself who mules. For instance dark lord day, I hate that beer so I was prepared to "mule" all of my bottles, even the ba ones. I also helped a buddy who had an extra ticket stand in line and pick up bottles. Kuhnhenn winter solistice even though I like it muled most of my bb4d allotment and only saved a bottle of each vintage. I have muled cases of new glarus product/other shelf beers like pipeworks. Everything at cost, it isn't even like trading, sometimes people will give you a few extra bucks for your efforts but it is a generous kind-spirited type thing trying to give people beers they might want to try. I guess I don't see it the same way as the op or others in this thread.

i didn't win so it didn't matter, didn't have to be in the position, but beforehand i did tell a guy he could have it, it would have been more of a trade than other mules but im serious. Fuck that 50$ garbage.

I too thought $50 was outrageous for their BA Dark Lords. Then I tasted Bourbon Vanilla DL, and $50 didn't seem so bad. To each thier own sir!

I pick up a group from the old folks' home in St. Johnsbury for HF releases. They get a nice day out and I get all of the beer. Plus elderly people love complaining about waiting in lines and how much things cost so they fit right in.

Looks like the votes are pretty even. For those of you that are against it. I guess just because I live in a state with backwards ass beer laws I shouldn't be able to get a friend to grab me a bottle every now and then. Not everyone is a hoarder. Just because you live in the county or state a beer is released gives you the right to buy up your allotment to do with what you please and fuck everyone else. My $.02

Don't really know or care about the muling I guess, and after reading this post there seems to be many different definitions of "muling". The idea of "winning a trade" however, seems like ridiculous BS to me.......:slight_frown:

Going with a group of friends, that will enjoy the beer, and possibly trade some to trading partners? Cool.

Going with a group of friends, that would not have gone otherwise and that don't drink the beer, so you can get a shit ton of bottles to either hold for ransom on BA or sell in your store? Shady.

Muling is a dick move, plain and simple. But, it's one advantage of being a bigamist.

So if you don't go to DL Day or Hunaphu Day you shouldn't be able to get a bottle. I went to Huna Day this year and it was bottles left over on Sunday, I didn't go back but could have gotten a second case. From my bottles I have done bottle shares and tastings. I have sent 2 out in BIF's to people that couldn't get them. Yeah, that is a dick move I guess. I still like your avatar though.
