I was actually starting to wonder about that after my last post. I tried looking for it on their website, but I didn't see it anywhere. Plus the fact that the one I got was the only bottle in the store and that I've never seen it anywhere before that point really started to seem a little fishy to me. I suppose there's a first for everything, right?

    Cheers!

Keiths is absolute garbage. There's a reason why they market it as "Nova Scotia-style lager" in the US. Because the average consumer, even if they don't drink it, is somewhat more likely to know IPA is that bitter stuff.

My assumption is that at some point, in the 1800s, it probably was what would be called an IPA at the time. Then over the years, they tweaked the recipe here and there until it bore no resemblance to whatever it used to be - eventually being left with the pale lager (I doubt it's even ale!) that it is today.

In it's home market, they probably never changed the name so that even as the beer changed, people would still recognize the brand. In the rest of Canada, the craft beer movement is maybe a decade to a decade and a half behind the US in terms of market share and consumer education - so they keep the name to differentiate the product, even though it really isn't different at all. Brewing on the labeling line.

I haven't had it since I was working in Canada in 2001, I think at that time they weren't importing to the US. Because I looked for it when I got back in the states but couldn't find it. Of course, at the time, good beer to me was Killians or St. Pauli's, I knew nothing of craft beer. That being said, I enjoyed the Keith's over miller, coors, and bud. Simply some nostalgia in my beer journey.

Mood, time, and place have a huge bearing on how we enjoy things. I sure do enjoy knocking back an ice cold can of High Life or Pabst after doing yardwork in July. :grinning: Once, while taking the train from Toronto to Syracuse, I even enjoyed having a can of Sleemans Cream Ale from the beverage car - all because of the novelty of it. Then we hit the border, the VIA staff got off and the Amtrack staff got on. And the beers available in the beverage car changed! I drank my first bottle of Yuengling, a beer I still enjoy the rare time I find myself stateside, on a train somewhere between Buffalo and Syracuse.

Good 'ol fashioned Corona Light. Light lagers are usually free of any potentially offensive flavors and smells. I have yet to run into a Corona Light that didn't reek of old shoes.
While I don't like Bud Light, Miller Light, etc. there's nothing foul about them - they're just bland.

Interesting topic. I think the following beers are poor for their style:
American Pale Ale: Sierra Nevada Pale Ale
American Pale Wheat Ale: Lakefront's Wheat Monkey
    Doppelbock: Sam Adams Double Bock
    Fruit/Veg. Beer: Budweiser Chelada
    Witbier: Sam Adams Imperial White

Kronenbourg Blanc is pretty poor witbier. And Alexander Keiths White is even worse.

I think I may have just had it - Beck's is officially awful in my book. hoegaarden is a close second.

Is Hoegaarden the best witbier around? Certainly not. Is it worse than junk artifically flavoured witbiers like Kronenbourg Blanc or Alexander Keiths White? Certainly not.

Hoegaarden is what it is. It has a pleasant mild taste, low alcohol, a light body, and can be drunk in great quantity during nice weather. It may not be the best wit around, but it's perfectly serviceable.

Aged Cave Creek Chili, its so much better fresh. Should be considered seperate beers. Dont even get me started on the disaster they called a beer with their '09 release. :grinning:
