Really? Clearly you just added yourself to the list.

I have no problem with trying every avenue to get this jerk (& DougO, I'm talking about the thief who stole $160 in beer, not the victim, in case you're curious) to fulfill his obligation. You don't want to cross the line into harassment, but a bit of well-placed & polite pressure to friends & family would never be out of bounds.

 

Judging from his IG and Untappd, I wouldnt expect anything different out of this guy in the near future. He came on here with a shitty attitude and went down in a trolling firestorm until his account was deleted. It's unfortunate, but this one is a wrap. I've been ripped off by people before during other trading/collecting/hobby ventures and sometimes you just have to let it go.

 

Did you read the embedded text messages? That did not sound like polite pressure to his family. And very much verging into stalking/harassment territory. Yeah, it's messed up and the other guy is still the bigger dick, but harassing the families is not cool.

 

Did his Mom steal from you? I dont understand contacting a grown mans parents.

I seemed to have forgot how much $$$ OP has into this trade.

I agree that a friendly call/text to a family member may well be in order... or maybe just a flesh wound to get his attention.

 

Yeah... it would be easier to swallow if it was $50 or so but mine was somewhere around $150-200 (with shipping) and included some harder to acquire beers. I never called anyone else in the family, other than his parents whom he lived with, but I was prepared to. I'm not saying I would threaten them but I would tell them I'm trying to get a hold of so and so because he stole from me and he's not returning my calls so I was wondering if you can tell him I'm looking for him, give me an alternate number, address, etc. I would try that several times .

I'll also say, I consider myself pretty reasonable but when someone pulls something like with me I can be a vengeful SOB (more than most) and I had full intentions of making some personal appearances at homes and work next time I was in that part of the country. I'm not saying I recommend that. Beer isn't worth getting in trouble over but...Seriously, you would have to be an idiot to steal from someone you don't even know but they have all your info and name. You don't know what that other persons mindset is or what they're capable of. This dude may think its funny to flaunt someone else's beers and consider us all "beer nerds" but one of these days he may piss off the wrong person.

On a positive note, I did eventually receive my beers and the BA community was extremely generous. I heard from many old trading partners who tried to send me beer and strangers that did send me beer. I even developed on going trades with some if the "strangers".

 

Sounds like what I would do if *knock on wood* it ever happened to me.

That was a nasty note he sent to the thief, not his family...nobody is advocating harassing his family.

 

I was gonna say, I picked up a case of 6/20 Pliny and haven't drank all of it, and would send you a bottle or two just because if you were still hoping to get some.

I've traded on IG and even seen this guys photos flaunting his stolen beers. He's been blocked and this thread is now being circulated there as well.

Kudos to the clown shoes folks, they came out looking like a total class act in this.

And for what it's worth OP, I think it would be so awesome (next to impossible, but awesome) if some of the local breweries never sold this jerk beer again. Worth a shot at least hah

 

This thread is a gold mine for finding people I do not want to trade with.

Defenders of bad trader privacy, probably want the same when life happens and they decide to rip someone off.

 

I'd also like to give oldp0rt a standing ovation for all of his help. As I'm sure he did with others, he tried calling the numbers I had more than once. Even more props for being in Canada and making those calls. I'm sure with all the bad trader threads lately his phone bill probably took a hit.

 

I understand the desire to make this dude's life miserable, but it's easy to get myopic within this little world. Not a bad idea to take a step back and consider how far one wants to push something before inviting even more aggravation in your life than being out a box of beer.

 

Ah, I read it wrong. I thought that's what he said to the family. My bad. I still think the verbiage may have gone a bit far even if to the bad trader, but it's not quite as bad as I thought.

 

Different people have different thresholds of what they will put up with, and I get that.

My gut feeling tells me that people who are concerned about getting ripped off themselves and are willing to be proactive about it are the same people who are less likely to do it to someone else.

Trading is a risk even when everything goes smoothly.
I try to minimize that risk by avoiding people who have the "it's just beer" attitude as well as known bad traders.

 

Whenever I start to think about getting into trading I just open this forum and say
"Oh yeah, nope"

 

I called him out on instagram. Since he was on my friends list and Just wanted to make sure my friends were aware of his actions. He said he got what he was crying about. Needless to say I got blocked. :-)
