Just curious if anybody has ever seen or heard rumors of Southern Tier doing any barrel aging? There is a BA Back Burner listed on here but not much else. I imagine any of the Blackwater series getting a BA treatment would sell like hotcakes and be seriously rich, full bodied beers.

Maybe I'll just drop a shot of Black Maple Hill in my next Crème Brulee and see how it goes

ST had a phenomenal barrel-aged beer at Firestone Walker Invitational called Schizophrenia. I preferred it to Cali brandy Hunahpu, and I had them back-to-back at the beginning of the fest.

Oak-Aged Unearthly is one of the smoothest IIPAs. Ever.

They did a cuvee series that had plenty of ballz in the mix from what I understand.

Also, I thought they had a regularly released barleywine aged in oad - back burner?

I don't know either. But I can tell you that Cre'me Brulee is awesome with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

I know that they put some Pumking in barrels last year because some people were trading growlers of it. It sounded pretty awesome. I concur that any of the Blackwater series (the ones they still make *tear*) would be great with some oaky or bourbon notes.

The backburner is oak aged and isn't terribly difficult to find

Tried that with Choklat - ewwww.

Barrel aging sounds great for Plum Noir or Choklat, but Creme Brulee was already a sticky, sickly-sweet mess, and bourbon wouldn't help that at all.
And as others have said, Back Burner is easy to find and tasty.

What you've got to do with Choklat is drop a shot of espresso in it.

At the brew-pub they called Schizophrenia "Project Z". I didn't get to taste any, but got some good feeback from other BA's.

They did do a bourbon barrel backburner and it is amazing. The oak-aged one isn't anything to write home about.

Also, a point of clarification, the oaked pumking and oak aged unearthly were not put in barrels. I believe they use oak staves in the fermentation tanks.

I believe the cuvee series was also "oak aged" and not barrels but maybe someone else can chime in?

Oak aged Pumking was not as good as regular Pumking, sad to say.

I don't know about cuvee 1 & 2, but number 3 is a serious drain pour. Opened a bottle at a tasting, 5 people tried it, all dumped it, dumped the rest to save anyone else from accidentally trying it, nasty, nasty stuff.

Oak aged backburner on the other hand is amazing

Often times I feel like Southern Tier is way underrated; so many solid beers.
