First my credentials. so to speak: I am nobody special. I am a cranky (very) old bastard who does not make that much money, never saved a baby from a burning building, never made love with Natalie Portman or Kaley Cuoco, and have yet to find a cure for cancer or multiple sclerosis. I have, however , been trading beer for 10+ years before this site even existed (never once with anyone on here,or any other beer/internet site), and have been searching out "good" beer for most of my adult life. So,after all that, you should probably not,in my opinion of course, kill even 1 more brain cell drinking beer, let alone trading for it if....

1.If you are not intelligent enough to find a trustworthy trading partner without posting inane ISO's , asking what the fuck your beer is even worth, and then blindly sending beer to people you dont know, and probably never will. Go to the store, buy one of the hundreds of beers available there, and thank God you werent alive and of beer drinking age in the 70's. Then stay home.

    2. If you are too fucking stupid to figure out how to package a box full of glass and liquid without reading a fucking blog, you are certainly too stupid to appreciate whatever beer you might trade for. Stay home, society will be better for it, trust me. Again, stay home. Please.

    3. If you really think that 90% of anything you might trade for is going to be much more than marginally better than most of the stuff you can buy locally, please stay home.

    4. Finally, if, you really feel the need to spend your hard earned money trading for a beer that has possibly been shipped around the country, boiled in the July heat, dropped, kicked, and tossed by the Fed Ex guy, and stored for months in somebodys non-temperature controlled closet, and then are too fucking stupid to even bother checking up on the person, checking references, or doing any kind of sleuth work at all, and then you get screwed, well I have a little trouble even feeling sorry for you. Granted, screwing you over would still be a DICK MOVE, some (most?) of the blame still has to fall on the person who is so giddy over getting some out of market beer that they become incapable of using even basic common sense. You shouldnt need a fucking blog for this. Just stay home.

In conclusion, sorry for all of this, but typing it was somewhat cathartic for me. I used to like reading these forums, now they mostly give me a headache. Jesus H. Christ. Do some of you actually function in society ? This shit is out of controll, and a couple of galaxies beyond ridiculous. The crazy old man is done now. Good day. Enjoy the last word (s).

I would say to him this site is all fun and games. It makes it so that I do meet people over the net and it is nice to see them in person at beer events and share a drink. So in that regard it is a nice hobby, but it is just a hobby.

There are plenty of beers out there and you should drink 90% of your beer at a local bar on tap or from a nearby bottle shop. The 10% that is drank off trading should be a rarity, the people that only drink walez have some issues but those are called too much money and time on their hands. If it makes them happy then that is what makes an economy so good for them.

The post prolly should be more directed at those that take this little game a bit too seriously. There are too many trolls and meanies, and some people who try to arbitrage between a few sites and outlets. Those few bad apples will not spoil the bunch, but they don't look good in the bushel.

Relax chill brew drink eat and be merry.

For someone who describes himself as "nobody special", you sure have a high opinion of yourself.

I've never read a blog on how to trade and ship beer properly, and most of this stuff does indeed seem like common sense, but it's pretty hypocritical for you to trash people who seek guidance from blogs on how to trade beer wisely while also disparaging the habits said people can avoid by doing proper research before trading.

Basically, if people aren't you, and didn't glean their knowledge of beer trading from countless years of experience or don't have some innate form of common sense that provides them with the ins and outs and common sense of beer trading, then they are idiots, and deserve to be ripped off in trades. Gotcha.

Although I largely agree with most of what you posted, this one takes little turn for me.

I have had all the beer locally available to me, and I've found many, many beers more than marginally better produced by brewers and distro areas beyond my reach. I think this (the way it's worded) casts a presumption that brewers locally are actually producing high quality beer. This simply isn't always the case. I live in Washington state, where opening a brewery is just not that complicated when compared to some other states (shit, we've got nearly 200 breweries with new ones opening monthly it seems). That being said, the city I live in has seven local breweries off the top of my head, and only two produce beers that are worth drinking repeatedly. Granted, I have Sierra Nevada, Firestone Walker, Great Divide, Logsdon, Hair of the Dog, Port, Lost Abbey, Stone, Deschutes, and many others I'm probably forgetting producing world class beer, but do they provide the nuances of vanilla I find in BCBS? The wonderfully orchestrated approach to DIPA's that Alchemist offers? The thick, viscous, intense beer that CCB's Marshall Zhukov is?

    No.

As such, those trying to discover new beers, new flavors, new experiences, new avenues of appreciation - should not be discouraged. One does not know what "marginally better" is until they find out for themselves, particularly since tastes are 100% subjective. Shit, I like 1997 Triple Bock - a real piece of shit beer to most, but really complex and approachable to me.

    Cheers

About time someone pointed this out. I would like to trade with someone experienced like yourself. I see you have Abrasive and Heady Topper on your wants. I have access to those, so I'd love to trade them to you. Anyone know what they're worth? Is there a site I can look that up on? Also, since they're cans, I can probably just use a shoe box, or should I still use bubble wrap? I need to look that up too I guess. I'm not sure what you have in Indiana to trade either, but I know FFF stuff is magical because I have the internet.

So, hit me up OP, sounds like we're close to wrapping this up. You don't mind shipping first do you?

Why bother with the entire OP?

So that all the "cool kids" can join up in a circle and jerk each other off about how right they are and how they are superior traders?

Bottom line is that the people this thread was directed at will not care or change because of some geriatric rant and the people that do care and agree with this post will continue on doing their thing and avoiding the people who this thread was directed at. The world will be unchanged as a result of this post...so I can only conclude that the point of this was to induce a circle jerk of agreement with the OP and scorn on the people described in the post.
