Hey friends im heading to seattle to head out to the gorge from Boston. I will be hitting up brouwers and then bottleworks before we head out towards the venue. Either way i have no knowledge of what i should buy and any help would be great. I will probably pick up between 4-5 bottles and a couple six packs. Six packs will be in the ipa/lager/pale ale variety and the bottles will be crazier heavier stout/porter/strong ale types. Any suggestions are appreciated. This helps me from driving my fiance crazy spending 1 1/2 hours in the store messing around. Nick
Black Butte XXV (Is it still there?) Logsdons Fremont Six Packs Reasonably priced Ballast Point Sixers Ask if they have Red Peak in the back. It's never out in the cooler.
Have fun at Phish!! Wish I was gonna be out there. Work is always in the way. I will be at SCI@Hornings the following weekend though and can't wait!
I did not see any BBXXV there yesterday. I do know at least one place in town that had some as of this weekend, but it seems to have moved pretty quickly.
Thanks, I'll use that as a gauge for how quick it disappears here. Better get to the store and pick some more up before the end of the year.
Get a six-pack of Fremont Summer Ale and Interurban IPA. Head down to the brewery for some SBW Barleywine. Full Thorttle just got another shipment of BBXXV. Also, as much as we bitch about them, BevMo Northgate had TONS of it for $12.99 the other week. Guessing they still do.
That's because I moved. Interbay is no longer my nearest Whole Foods. EDIT: If there's consensus that it's anywhere as good as XXIV, I could be persuaded to buy more.
I honestly think it's the name. Casual beer fans think it's just a big bomber of Black Butte Porter or some special edition bottle of BBP.
Yeah you hit the nail on the head. I've seen countless people pick it up over the past few days, and put it back on the shelf. They read the bottle, look at the price, then set it down. I think they just don't realize what it is. Oh well. That just leaves more for the people that actually know.
In a side-by-side comparison from Chuck's last week, XXV was smoother out of the gate, and the XXIV had the sweeter characteristic going with the dates and figs still lingering around in the background. Opinions seemed split as to which variant was "better" but those I spoke with all agreed that they were both quite good. Also, XXIV is available at Uber as of last night for $19 (after tax).
Bottleworks also had some bottles of 2006 Old Bawdy for $10. I thought it was a good deal given that it's been cellared for 6 years (and it was pretty tasty).
They must be sending it out in waves; I think Deschutes tends to do this a lot (or maybe it's their distributor).
