Just for those of you keeping score. Today is Utah's big state holiday, known as Pioneer Day. Some of us instead celebrate today as Pie and Beer Day. I'll certainly be drinking some homebrew and eating me some pie to celebrate. Cheers!
Sounds like a great idea to me. There is a bbq spot near me that has awesome pecan pie. I always get a slice of that for desert to split with my girlfriend while I finish off a Legend Brown Ale. I might have to hit it up tonight and join in on the celebration.
This is going to push me over the edge and I'm going to try to make some porter floats when I get home. Pie and beer day should be a monthly happenstance, BTW.

What an awesome idea! This needs to become a national holiday, or at the very least, an AHA sponsored annual event. I'm thinking an entire issue of Zymurgy devoted to pie and beer pairings, with mouth-watering glossy pics accompanied by dual recipes for featured pairings - 18 recipes you can brew and 18 more that you can bake! PS: You had me at "Pie."

Well I'm not much for sweets, but pizza comes in a pie, right? And I'm a day late, but not a dolla short, so I'll just have my own celebration today, over some pizza and beer. Haha you beat me to it man, we celebrate Pie and Beer day on the third Thursday of every month at our Homebrew club, with pies from La Bella Pizza in New Paltz.
Thing is, you can't make a national holiday out of pizza and beer, because it's already a weekly religious event: Pizza and Beer Night is celebrated on Fridays, Saturdays, and/or Sundays, depending on you denomination and level of orthodoxy.
I must be really orthodox then, because I wind up with pizza and beer about twice or thrice a week. Mainly because a kick-ass pizza place opened near me, with two great slices and a drink for $5.40. Best pizza around, and great price. Only thing left to do is add beer. Done!
