Anyone got the inside scoop on this place? It appears that they are set to open any day/week now... With 'Ale House' in the name I got a little excited when I first saw the signage go up a few weeks ago...but now I'm thinking it'll just be some more CO taps in town. They do have a rooftop, so that's perfect for sporting your choicest summer tank (while slamming that super local 90 Shilly). Personally I think the neighborhood could use another succulent store or two, not some TX owned "ale house," but at least it isn't a lousy book store...honestly, who is reading all those words?
According to their Facebook, "40 taps on the main level & 40 taps on the rooftop patio!! 35 of which are Colorado brews!!!"
Not so bad at the moment: Sofie Sofie Paradisi Bourbon County Coffee Stout ’11 Matilda Big John Pere Jacques Bourbon County Cherry Rye Stout (freaking even more delicious on tap than bottle) And what's more delicious than Bourbon County Rare? FREE Rare tastings. They opened multiple bottles and shared them. They had no problem pouring multiple tastings either. They also gave out free tastings of King Henry, Madame Rose and Lolita. Props to Historian's for getting this off the charts event. And 10oz of the BCBSs : $10 . None of this 6oz for $12 nonsense. I will say we scouted Historian's last week and the beers they had on tap were every day brews, nothing out of the ordinary. But if you're in the area it's a quick walk between them and Trve, worth checking out. Plus their burgers were great. I had the peanut butter and bacon and my wife had the breakfast. Both were fantastic.
that IS a nice line-up. Walked by a week or so ago (around 6 AM, just a nice morning walk) and thought the posted beer menu was pedestrian. This definitely makes me want to take another look (during actual business hours!).
When El Diablo closed, I lost my main food outlet in that area when visiting TRVE. I certainly don't feel like dropping $15 for a burger at Punch Bowl. As long as this place has decent bar food, I doesn't take a whole lot to edge out the Hornet, IMO.
Food prices were Rackhouse-esque. About what we're used to paying when we go out nowadays. We only ate at El Diablo once not long after it opened. I really liked mine, my wife hated hers. She said it tasted like a microwave dinner they plopped onto a plate. The only thing that bothered me was the staff on that day knew nothing about Tequila (my close second love to craft beer). When I asked what style of glasses they had, I got a blank stare and I had to explain why it mattered. That's akin to asking a server in a brewery what style a beer is and have them say "Let me find out" (which has happened to me, though not in CO). We tried going back after we moved here, but they were already shut down. I was willing to give them another shot. What was this thread about again? Oh yeah, Historian's. Good food (at least what we had), can't call it cheap, ordinary beer lineup normally, but they put on one hell of an event with reasonable specialty beer pricing.
I can still smell and taste the Rare and KH this morning. Also, being hung over on BCBCS is the best hangover a man could have.
This GI event was a one-off. Historians probably won't have a lineup like this again. Not sure why GI chose Historians?
Last night was amazing. Never had KH or Rare, probably won't ever again either. The upstair bar was pretty nice, I'll go back.
About the only time mixing Cherry Rye and Coffee is a good idea: when you have generally unfettered access to both on tap. That shit was nice. And yes...last night was amazing. Great to hear about the new 'Sisters' offerings and variants coming in the fall as well...from the goose's mouth.
Tell the head goose to put that stuff in the stores here. Heard Falling Rock's turn today for the same.
