I keep seeing more breweries rolling out their Oktoberfest beers, and I wanted to get an opinion on what the best ones were. Looking at the reviews for them there are no clear cut favorites, so there is probably going to be a lot of personal opinion on the style. If you are able to do it, post two separate top 5 lists for German and American made, and indicate your top overall choice.

    My top 5
    1. Ayinger Oktober Fest-Marzen
    2. Millstream Oktoberfest
    3. New Glarus Staghorn Oktoberfest
    4. Great Lakes Oktoberfest
    5. Samuel Adams Octoberfest

    hmmmmmmm gotta go with
    1. New Glarus Staghorn (Heard it won't be made anymore, but just a rumor!)
    2. Sam Adams Octoberfest
    3. Capital Octoberfest
    4. Lazy Monk Octoberfest (small and once local brewery)
    5. Das Beirhaus Big Cedar Red (small and once local brewery)

    1- Ayinger (Marzen)
    2- Hacker-Pschorr (Marzen)
    3- Hoffbrau (Weis'n)
    4- Paulaner (Marzen)
    5- Spaten (Marzen)

I really want to try the Paulaner and Weihenstephaner Weis'n style beers- they could throw a monkey wrench into the whole works...

Haven't had many since it's not one of my favorite styles but Staghorn is definitely my favorite. Paulaner and Hacker-Pscorr were pretty good too. I remember your #5 Sam Adams' being pretty decent but I had it last year and it had a really strange sweetness that I did not enjoy at all.

Not 5 but Bells (RIP in bottles?) and Great Lakes are fantastic but I have a soft spot for Hofbrau. Not a traditional Oktoberfest (in their own eyes) but I love it.

This seems unlikely, since they have an Oktoberfest event in New Glarus.

This is my kinda thread! Oktoberfest is my favorite style.

    1) Paulaner
    2) Hacker-Pschorr
    3) Ayinger
    4) Prost
    5) Avery Kaiser

Truth be told, 1-3 are interchangeable and quite a bit ahead of their American counterparts.
