I just added several beers for a brewpub that I visited last night. However, I wasn't able to give them a full review like the threatening rules demand. All I could do was enter in the numbers I wrote down while tasting them. So I just added a disclaimer saying that my main purpose was simply to get the beers listed on the site, and under the brewer. Will all my adds be deleted?

There is a good chance that they might be deleted since you made a point of announcing that you did not do a full review.

I think that you could ask one of the site admins (like UncleJimbo) if they could make sure the beers are added even without the review but I have no personal experience doing that.

Note: I am not a site admin so I am speaking from no authority but judging by other actions I have seen over the years.

can a beer exist without a review though? I don't understand why a beer has to be fully reviewed by the first person to add. Like with my experience. I was taken there by someone, and didn't have the time to review each one with the required depth, but I do know the names, styles, and rough review that I gave them. Why would they be deleted? At least people can actually find them and give feedback now. Isn't that what this site is about?

So, wait, you drank them and, I assume, had an opinion on them based on what you tasted, and don't have the depth for a review? Son, that's what a review is! Just give me your opinion and some context to work within, and you're done. Simple.

Well, filling the number of character requirements with something along the lines of "I didn't do a full review !!!!!!!!!!"... doesn't exactly meet the requirements of a review.

I drank them all in a sampler, tasted 11 different ones. Sorry man, I'm not that pro I guess. I made sure to give them a quick score as I drank them, that's all. Idk, I guess I just look at the full reviews and am kinda intimidated at trying to delve that deep without sounding like an a-hole

My no. 1 goal was just to get them recorded under the beers listed for that brewer, and didn't feel like I could give an honest and accurate review given the way I drank them, and the time since I had drank them. That's what this whole post is about. Why is it so hard to find a constructive people on this site?

Alright: Basically, you learned that BA requires you fully review a beer in order to add them to the system (though I beleive mods can add without reviewing...I could be wrong...). You think this rule is unnecessary and "threatening" (whatever that means), but that's the rule. It's likely your reviews of the beers you added will be deleted. Whether or not this will delete the addition is unknown to me, and those who know haven't chimed in.

It's hard to be truly constructive when confronted with someone who doesn't want to follow the rules just because they feel said rules are "threatening", too much work, unnecessary, what-have-you. In fact, there's no way I can really see to be constructive beyond what has already been said to you: them's the rules, if they're deleted they're deleted, next time review when you want to add.

If you're worried about how pretentious you sound when you talk about beer, then I don't think you've got the beer gut for this site my friend.

Well, I was just explaining to the person who asked why the reviews would be deleted. Essentially the rules for a review were not followed and by bringing attention to it, you are almost guaranteeing that they will get removed vs. just waiting to see if someone sees them and reports them to the site moderators.

I'm not sure why you are saying there are no constructive people on this site. It sounds to me like you are just looking for someone to validate that what you did was actually acceptable even though it does not follow the established rules.

Multiple people (including myself and TMoney2591) have mentioned that we believe that site admins are able to add beers to the site, so you could have sent a message to any one of them and asked if they would add the beers for you. Additionally, you could have asked the question of how you could get a beer added to the site since you did not feel like you had enough information to do a full review before doing it (and not following the established rules).

The Bros have already mentioned that with the upcoming site redesign, they are going to change the ways that beers are added to the site to possibly not tie it to the review process thus allowing the addition of beers without doing a full review. They have not provided a lot of details on how that is going to work yet but I expect to see something in the not too distant future.

Yes a beer can exist without a review but thus far that ability has only been provided to site admins. The Bros established the rule that you can only add a beer when you do a full review - I'm sure they have their reasons but as you probably know, the ability to do quick reviews is a fairly recent addition to the site.

As Todd said in this post, they won't be allowing beers to be added without reviewing them until the site redesign is complete. Until then, I guess you could keep a list of the beers you've had and then add them when the new method of handling beer entries is implemented. It's also possible that someone else might enter a beer with a full review after you've tried it, and then you can give it a "had" rating once it's in the system.

Do you feel better about yourself now? You wonder why the kid doesn't want to review beers when people like you are on this site making people feel inferior for whatever reason. He was simply asking whether they'd be deleted or not and here you come to save the day and make sure he feels like an idiot for not reviewing. Thanks bud.

Adding a beer requires a review because The Bros do not want a lot of beers listed with no reviews; they feel that beer listings without review information are not of much value. Furthermore, they want to encourage people to review.

As others have pointed out, it is possible that your dummy "reviews" will be deleted, but the beers should remain in the database unless Todd or Jason removes them (site editors cannot delete beers).

    Cheers

P.S. When adding a beer, please add the ABV. Look it up on the brewery's website to make life easier for everyone, including site editors who will have to look it up later.

How did I make him feel inferior? I thought I was encouraging him to write a review by telling him how easy it was. Most of the negativity was toward what was perceived as a distaste for the rules of adding beers (which still looks like the case, as shown above).
