can beer is "flatter" than the same in bottle

This just sounds like poor pouring technique out of the can thus losing carbonation or it's all mental. If anything the can is better at retaining carbonation than a bottle is.

SNPA in cans has a smoother, creamier mouthfeel than from the bottle imo, especially when drank right out of the can. I actually prefer it to the bottle.

It is interesting how we can get so excited about something as subjective as taste. But then, my age related decline in taste buds probably puts me at a disadvantage for making comparisons. While I'm not a fan of SNPA (yes, I know many love it) I do enjoy the occasional Fat tire and SA BL and I find that I prefer them in a can. They simply taste and feel (mouthfeel) better to me (yes, very subjective). I enjoyed the comments about Cisco as I've recently had their Indie Pale Ale in a can and while good, didn't seem to live up to the reviews I've read. but, most of the reviews were for the bottled version.

Long Trail Double Bag is not as good from a can, but it brewed in a brewery other than the one in VT- which is he cause I believe.

Hah...we actually have one of those here, but I doubt they would let me use it for a beersperiment. May have to go deep undercover....

Our packaging engineers tell me that cans tend to have a lower specification for internal pressure than a bottle, but the difference is "negligible". Of course, that is the can we use here, not anybody else's.

Actually, I can--and more here and here. Note one of the idiotic slogans--"When one cup is not enough and a bottle is too much". I guess, it's aimed at people who drink wine in [plastic] cups.

Sure sounds like someone went into this with an open mind :sunglasses:

    Also, Heady Topper.

did a side by side sculpin tasting can vs bottle. no difference.

like others said cans are harder to carefully pour.
Cans just get a bad rep for no real reason. I would like all my beer canned so I can take it too the pool, beach and elsewhere.

The batch size might be a true statement in the context of Cisco but I cannot believe that isa universal truth (come on, breweries like the Alchemist are making Heady Topper in some pretty small batches).

somehow this thread has derailed... can't we stop talking about the OPs question and get back to calling each other names? (where is that sarcasm font, anyway?)

No one has seemed to mention if a beer comes in a can...you should probably just drink it out of the can. Even Surly beers I half pour for aroma and color and then drink the rest from the can. Its usually better out of the can imo.

All SNPA is made at the brewery in Chico, CA for now.

The Mills River NC brewery comes on line later this year.

I can't speak for the others, but both New Belgium and SN do "can conditioning," and at least for NB they claim that it's a unique method.

So, for whatever reason, you may dislike the subtle difference associated with it.

    I have no preference.

Moderate pour from the bottle, gentle pour from the can.

I was looking through a bunch of my pictures and it seems to vary no matter what vessel is used.

Wine-thinking in regard to ullage and the larger headspace of the can: with more beer surface "open to the elements", although minimal because of the bottling and canning techniques used, could still impart slightly quicker aging, and a flattening "release" when the can is cracked??

Cans have a lower O2 level, and will take longer to stale. The is less volume in the headspace.
