I've been visiting the new taprooms popping up all over the state. It's starting to become clearer on which ones have the best shot at long term sucsess. A beautiful taproom can only get you so far if the beer is mediocre. This last Friday I was visiting a MPLS taproom with friends for the first time and the place was DEAD.

I thought you'd never ask. Bent Paddle and 612 to name a couple. There's a big gap between the current batch of taprooms. It's amazing to see all the $ spent on equipment. They all seem very outfitted.

Wait, are you saying 612 & Bent Paddle are examples of good or bad taprooms?

I've haven visited either, but I've heard great things about Bent Paddles tap selections.

What's your point here? Are you trying to say that while 612 and Bent Paddle (which is in Duluth, not Mpls) have great looking facilities, their beer isn't very good and that's why when you went to an unamed taproom with new friends last Friday and it was dead?

I've been to every tap room in town, and 612 has nothin'. All the others are great.

Mich golden is the best selling beer in the state, it isn't all in the quality of the beer.

The Brewery in Rochester hasn't had real great reviews and I've wondered how long the novelty of locally brewed would take it. Rochester seems to be a pretty bad beer town for their size.

Bent Paddle has great beer. We where there in a Saturday afternoon a few weeks ago and it was packed.

I think 612 and Staples Mill should do a collabo. And now with White Birch in town? Can someone say 3 way collaboration?

Didn't Staple Mills go under already? Maybe they could do a collaboration with Leach Lake instead. They could unintentionally brew a sour together.

I've been to 612 a couple of times and didnt find their beer to be bad. I mean, they didn't blow me away, buy the beers I tried were for the most part clean and well done, if a bit under carbonated right when they first opened.

You obviously havet an axe to grind against 612...not sure what it is and really don't care. You should've started a new topic titled I hate 612. I've been to the majority of the taprooms in the metro, and these folks were actually the most inviting and personable of the bunch. Is their beer the best? No. Atmosphere and friendliness plays a large role in where I'll spend my time and money and I think they have that. It will take more than your ridiculous suggestion to change my mind. Do tell why you hate 612 so much!!

It really is about the beer! Brewing mediocre IPA's won't cut it in the long haul.

So, Bent Paddle brews mediocre IPA and will end up failing as a brewery because of this?
