Go to Brewery Vivant for the food. Its 1.5 miles from Founders. The Duck Nachos are seriously epic and the menu is loaded with delicous food that I would call upscale cuisine. I stop at Brewery Vivant every single time that I go to Grand Rapids for some duck nachos. I crave them, seriously. Not to mention its a really unique brewery...

Sicilianos is a must for bottles. Seriously. And then I second the vote for Vivant. The duck nachos alone make it worth while. If you bring any fresh Pliny holler at a bro.

Are u staying downtown? If so there are a lot of breweries downtown. Hit hopcap- it is a top 5 beer bar in the world for a reason. If u feel like branching out a bit i would suggest white flame in hudsonville (about 15 mins outside of gr) it is my local and the beer is top notch. As for shops its either sicilanos in standale or the copper vine in grandville.

If u need any help/advice feel free to BM me and if u feel like being real cool bring some Pliny and i will hook u up with some rare michigan beers.

Hopcat is one of my favorites, and it is about a 5-10 minute walk from Founders. Also, Perrin is worth a trip as well.

Definitely try to make it to Siciliano's to stock up on bombers and such. Fantastic little spot.

Vivant as your second (in my opinion) but Scillianos is maybe getting a little too much love as I stopped in yesterday and they were cleared out of shorts and some other stuff. Maybe ask one of the locals to PM you a better joint because if you want Shorts and its a FIB heavy weekend, you might be SOL.

I would have recommend vivant until yesterday when I was informed they have sent a cease and desist order to tired hands.

Everything above is great but don't overlook Perrin! They are definitely doing great things over there.

this C&D stuff is getting ridiculous. As the number of breweries increase, the list of possible names is shrinking. At what point do they become like popular music and not care about similar "song names" as long as the band name is different. Think of the song Ball & Chain; its a Janis Joplin, Social Distortion, Elton John, XTC & Sublime song. I wont be confused by Vivants Farm Hand vs. Tired Hands Farm Hand, the same way I'll never confuse Elton John for Social Distortion.

In all seriousness there is no reason to leave the downtown GR area if your group doesn't want to, other than for bottle shops. Founders, Vivant, Mitten, Hopcat, Grand Rapids Brewing, even the BOB brews there own beer, its not that good but its there. Most within a short walking distance or you can take the Rapid to hit the outliers, Vivant and Mitten.
