612 has a really nice taproom, but the beer didn't do anything for me - not that they were bad, just didn't wow me.
But I didn't care for Urine Trouble either (let the flaming begin). Cacao Bender - that's a whole new story - that needs to be canned starting now!

I think it's a bold statement to call their beer bad, bland and uninventive possibly, but actually bad is probably unfair. I did a little taproom tour with my brother-in-law and his friend (novice craft beer guys at best) and they both really enjoyed the smoothness of Mary Ann after trying horribly over hopped Quincy Common at indeed. I won't call that a bad beer just a terrible interpretation of a style.

Isn't lucid enough of an example of success and quality not always going hand in hand.

These brewers dont understand you NEED to put RARE in the beer for it to sell. That is all.

I truly do not understand the critisim of Lucid. I was at their brewery a couple of weekends ago and really enjoyed each and every beer I tried. Dyno, a solid but safe APA. Foto, a good IPA. Düo, a really good double IPA. Silo, a nice Saison. Not overly sweet or wildly yeast accented like so many other domestic offerings of the "style". Air, super creamy, easy drinking, clean pale beer. That's what it's supposed to be. Sure, they made something called Camo, which in my opinion wasn't a bad beer per say, just a pretty lackluster version of a DIPA. They no longer brew this beer. Another really fucking awesome thing they do is hold homebrew competitions where the winner gets to brew their recipe on Lucids big system and see it distributed commercially. What other local brewery does this? None. Not one. For that alone they get my respect.

Mediocre IPA. Why would I elect to go to Bent Paddle when there are much better beers at Fitgers and Canal? Cool taproom? Meh...

While Fitgers is still the king of the North Shore, and for good reason, I thought PB golden IPA was better than the IPA at Canal. I liked Canals other offers, looking forward to trying more at PB in the coming weeks.

What we really need is a brewery that makes great sours in the TC area.

Maybe quality wasn't the right word, but my point was that much like 612 lucid gets little our no love on this forum but they seem to be rather successful,

Bent paddles golden IPA was the best beer I have tried this year. I wish I could easily find it in the cities. On a camping trip up north is was amazeballs.

Brew masters, please make us some good, local, <$15/bomber sours (preferably ~$10).

    You'd be a success overnight

Well, opinions are like...things that everyone has. I visited 612 a few weeks after they opened & their beers had a same 'wrongness' to them that turned me off. Was it terrible? No. Was it good? Certainly not. There was an underlying fruitiness to all three of the beers I tried that yelled "Hey! There's something wrong with the brewing process here!"

So, whatever. Maybe they've fixed whatever problems they had, but I've said it before: dial in your fucking recipes before you start selling product. Same reason I won't buy Lucid; I hear they've improved, but their first bombers were of Camo were rancid, & their taps weren't much better.

There will be a winnowing of the herd, sometime. Staple Mills was just the first & most obvious example to commit hari-kari.
