Anyone else have stores in their areas that have epic beer selections but don't have prices on anything? This annoys the hell out of me. I have two really small, but very nicely packed beer stores (by beer stores I mean corner delis) in my little corner of BK, Ny. Neither store has prices on their beer, why do they do this? One store is reasonably priced so getting to the register isn't really a surprise but the other is a total crap shoot. Today I was blown away by the prices of a few single cans and one 750ml bottle ($30 for a Nebraska Hop God Barrel Aged...is this normal?), I bought them anyway b/c I wanted to try them all. Even though their selection is awesome and different from the other awesome store, I'm now very nervous about shopping there. What gives?

Not sure about the Nebraska Hop God Barrel Aged price, but for your convenience....next time you roll through there, just ask to get price tags up on their product, because at least where I am located...it is the law to have price tags on everything. If Weights & Measurement came through a store here and there weren't tags on things, they could get fined. Plus, it would help on keeping their customers as yourself.

We have a lovely little place in Philly that doesnt label bottles, then refers you to their price book which is so outdated that it still has Three Floyds listed as an available beer. I tend not to shop there.

I like to think that if they get enough product to restock because it's continually being abandoned at the checkout counter maybe they'll eventually get the hint and start pricing things.

There's a place near me that seems to miss a lot of their bottles with no shelf markings. I don't know if it's due to employees just missing them or the fact that the prices on some of their stuff is so out of line with other places that they don't want to dissuade customers from taking the bottles to the counter. I ask for a fair amount of price checks there, and lots of time the bottle goes back on the shelf.

This is the same place where I asked one of the guys a few months back if they had any BA Framinghammer in the back room - he looked and said something akin to "no all we have there is some of that new maple syrup shit."

Helles yes. My local bottle shop has their prices hand written on tiny, tiny tags in a pretty dark store. They are crowded and close together. I prefer that they be typed and in bold rather than in faded ink. No displays ever have prices and that is a deterrent. I am your typical shopper and if I have to ask someone I can't find about the price, I might not buy it. The singles are very expensive some of them. It all boils down to how frequently you haunt that shop. If frequently enough you can make it worth your time unless the prices are way overboard. If you can't afford it then go somewhere else.

I can't stand this. Plus the staff at my local shop doesn't really know what the prices should be or anything else about craft beer. I seriously drive an hour away to Mentor, OH for better selection, competent staff, pleasant service and price stickers.

I tend to avoid places that don't list prices. There are often a large number of beers I'm interested in when I go to a shop, so I really don't want to take the time to ask the prices.

Went to a great beer store in new Orleans called Stein's deli, almost everything was prices. Came across 5 sciences with some other fantoma bottles marked $15.99 no price tags on any of the 5 sciences. Decided it was worth a shot at $16 went up and found out it was $28... Gahhh

I HATE this as well. The one store in my town that has a decent selection doesn't have their prices listed. I once paid around $13 for a six pack of Pale 31. I have not been back.

I wouldn't shop somewhere that didn't price their merchandise, that goes for more that just beer.

It's the law in MA that every liquor store have prices on the booze, but I think it can be circumvented by using one of those stupid price books. Most stores (at least the ones I shop at) do a good job putting price stickers on everything, but I've definitely been places that rely heavily on the book. The book that, if you're lucky, was maybe updated 6 months ago

Ha, nope, Bay Ridge. That is why it is hard not to shop at these two stores b/c my selection for high quality not bmc beer (at least in walking distance) is limited.

    1) Nebraska Brewing Company beers are ridiculous. They sold near me for $28.99, so $30 does not surprise me. But the insult to injury, if you were to buy them is that they suck. Before they had any distribution, they had sent sample bottles around to see who would pick them up and I was in on one of those tastings and the only one out of the batch that was decent was the Chardonnay Oak aged Hop God and it certainly wasn't for the hops, but that it just became a decent, drinkable, high ABV beer. But at the time, I didn't even have any idea what the price points were going to be on these. I was gauging them as being maybe $5 to $7 bottles. I couldn't believe what they finally priced at. I can't think of a more exaggerated miss-match between price and quality, than Nebraska Brewing's releases.

    2) Any store that does not price everything, simply do not know how the market works. If I see something that I am very curious about or has been on my check list of things that I have been seeking, I will walk the bottle to the counter to get a price. But if I go into a store and nothing has prices on them, I am most likely walking out empty handed. Of course, I always live where there are a lot of retailers, so there is no reason to bother with places that don't take the time to price, but it would obviously be different if I lived in a rural area where the next good beer selection may be 50+ miles away. But even at that, it sucks for people in those communities, because if I wasn't already a craft drinker, I certainly wouldn't be likely to be picking any up to learn, if I not only was unfamiliar with the product, but also had no way to sit there with my own thoughts to compare prices on what I was seeing.

I work at a liquor store and I would say that right now about 10% of our beers don't have tags on them. They've either been knocked off by customers and been lost or those in charge of printing tags never got any to us in the first place. That said, if anyone is curious about a price, all they need to do is ask us. We're not trying to dupe anyone. It's a busy store, and tags are one of my absolute last priorities. That said, the sense of entitlement in this topic is staggering. Talk about your First World problems.
