I am visiting the area for a week and was wondering if there were any good bottle shops or bars that anyone recommends.

J Ryans is the best beer bar in Syracuse to go. Blue Tusk is over priced and way over hyped.

j ryans, tusk, middle ages brewing, empire, alto cinco for excellent food and a very good small tap list, beer belly deli down the st from alto cinco for another good small tap list.

for bottles: go to the byrne dairy on old liverpool road. the syracuse co-op near westcott st is also good.

Don't miss the Dinosaur BBQ in Syracuse and spend a day in nearby Skaneateles on Skaneateles Lake. Check out Morris's Grill and Blue Water grill across the Street for eats and brews. Dougs Fish fry for great fish sandwiches and dinners and Midlakes Navagation for lake and dinner cruises. President Clinton vacationed on Skaneateles lake a couple times-nice lake and community...

Morris' closed years ago. It's now the Lakeside Pub...nice place, not a beer destination.

While in the Cuse, check out Empire Brewing Co in Armory Square. Good food, nice beers. For beer bars, J Ryan's and Tusk are the best options. Yes the Tusk is heavier on prices, but J Ryan's can't hold a match to the Tusk's food. Don't sleep onKitty Hoynes, also in Armory Sq, authentic Irish Pub tha.t offers some solid beers beyond standards (Guinness, etc).

Agreed on Galeville (Byrne Dairy) and the Co-Op for bottle shops.

    Safe travels.

Based on my experiences visiting 5 times last fall....alto cinco and blue tusk were both amazing.

Love Dino BBQ! Whenever I travel through Syracuse I stop there for ribs and beer.

Wait, I LIVE in Syracuse and go to J Ryan's fairly frequently. How did I not know that they did growler fills?!

I looked at their tap list online and they had the half, full pour, and growler prices. I walked in and ordered it.

Huh. I didn't even know they had a website. I guess that's the homer in me not even thinking to look there, haha. Thanks for the tip! If you're still here on Sunday, Empire has a great blues brunch.

Any idea if Dino's allows pets (on the patio)? Made the last min decision to drive to Syracuse (from DC) in the early a.m. to pick up a friend who needs it, and decided to take the dog along with me as well. Just not sure what to do with him if we go there for lunch..
