Can you buy Pliny the elder beer up north? I have a friend coming back from Connecticut to NC soon.

I know Philadelphia used to get some allocated. I don't know if that is still true.

    No, not legallly.

It is mostly distributed to some areas on the west coast, Denver, and Philly (tap only).

As far as I know, the only place on the east coast to buy Pliny is in Philadelphia and it is only Draft and not in bottles. Russian River does distribute bottels to Philly but only of their Wild and Sour.

I thought Philly was an on tap only Deal.

You'll have to use an online store in CA, try beverages4lessinc.com I think it is, they're in SD and get Pliny/Blind Pig/Alpine brews etc. It'll cost thoiug the shipping alone will be close to $50.

It's kinda a 1st generation DIPA, brewed by Vinnie at Russian River. It has to be fresh though, ask for bottling dates before you buy, the fresher the better. If it's 2 months pass in a hurry, but bevereges4less is usually fresh stuff, and it doesn't last long. remember anything you buy will take 8 days to get to you as well. I've had 15 day Pliny and IMO it's great stuff.

Philly is tap only, according to the distributor. On your way through, check out phillytapfinder.com and click on "on tap" and see if Russian river is listed. If so, it will tell you what and where it is. It's in Philly somewhere, most of the time.

Yup! This is exactly what I do, using PhillyTapFinder to locate PtE and other RR. Monk's Cafe gets it regularly since RR comes to Philly because of Monk's (according to a sales rep at Origlio Beverage I recently met). I have also had PtE at POPE in South Philly and at the new Strangelove's Bar, which at one point had Damnation and Blind Pig on tap at the same time (photo).

Agree w/ this. Back when Russian River had a footprint in Washington state (sob), Pliny was a pretty common trade request and at $5 a bottle it was pretty easy to throw in a bottle or two (we'd get a fresh batch every 4 or 5 weeks). You could probably find a BA in California who'd be willing to part with a bottle or two as part of a larger trade.

It's definitely worth trying if you haven't had it, still one of my all-time favorite beers. Just don't expect a mind-blowing abrasive hop bomb; Pliny is a more elegant and refined brew. I miss it dearly.

craftbeerkings.com occasionally gets it available for online ordering. I've purchased from them a few times with good results.

That it does, but for a once a year deal I treat myself to both Pliny and Blind Pig.

I'm heading to Cali (San Fran and San Diego) starting this Thursday. Not sure I'll have time to stop into RR but I assume I should be able to find it around?

Also, anybody know why they distribute to Philly?

Paid around $25 to have 2 bottles of Pliny shipped to DC once, through The Jug Shop online. Well worth it.

Multiple places have it for sale online. Personally, Id say trade for it though. Its not difficult to obtain via trade.
