Maybe this has been discussed before, but what would you do if someone goes way outside the parameters of the agreed trade and sends you a massive amount of extras?

For example- Agreed trade $4$ $30, but you get sent $120 worth of stuff.

    I'd feel obligated to reciprocate.

I would post a photo on facebook and talk about how I won so hard.

Or, just workout another deal in the future, and return the favor.

Graciously thank him, give him feedback on all the great stuff he sent, and start cyber stalking his wants list in order to blow up his porch on the next trade.

I understand what you mean and I would feel obligated as well, but realize there is a difference between feeling obligated and being obligated. You're obligated to fulfill the trade you agreed to, and anything above and beyond that is a bonus. Thank them for being so generous and maybe tell them if they ever need anything from your area to let you know and you'll try your best to help them out. If they're truly being generous, they shouldn't expect you to match the amount they sent in a future box.

Personally, I'd stalk the hell out of their wants and forum posts and destroy their porch with a box of whatever they're looking for at some point in the future as a surprise. It's more fun when they're not expecting it.

    Return the favor.

You don't need to setup a trade in order to just put together something on the down low and surprise that person back. What I find is, by doing that you can end up gaining a really good trade buddy that will hook you up in the future and you just end up sending unsolicited boxes back and forth.

You either send an unsolicitated box and destroy them or the next time you trade with them, you destroy them.

I try to make sure that that person gets the first fruits of whatever trade bait I've got and then I try to stash some extra goodies beside.

This. I got an awesome regular trading partner by both of us trying to beat the other with extras. A few months ago, he sent me a brandy Huna when he heard I broke my ankle. Now that I'm walking and driving, I'm plotting my revenge

Sounds like someone that might be getting a surprise box next time a nice release takes place in my area...

I agree with both of you guys, the only thing I can understand about this being a problem for the OP is if he intentionally made a single small trade because he is on a budget and does not have the resources to reciprocate.

If that's the case, if and when the OP gets some spare cash, he sends him an unexpected box. Otherwise, he just feels good. I'm sure the BA that sent him the awesome extras felt good about sending them

Maybe they have issues with their sight and didn't realize what they sent.

This was more of a hypothetical question/thread, but I have had it happen to me before and I reciprocated, which included sending something rare from my cellar.

You hit 'em back. Doesn't have to be right away, and it comes in different forms. Maybe you send him a bottle of the next release you go to out of the blue, or maybe you offer him up one hell of a deal on a future trade.

Alternatively, you can pay it forward. Crush somebody else on your next trade and when they give you the "Dude, WTF?", tell them to do the same to somebody else in return.

Ok sooo I will throw this out there since sometimes I do bomb the shit out of some traders porches. I send a ton or a couple quality extras for 2 reasons.

1- because I have too many beers and have ticked one on the recipients wants list or have bottles I think they may like and never herd about.

2- for selfish reasons because they live in an area that I like beer from and trying to front load the possibility for a future trade.

The first is reason is the most used these days since I have a few kick ass trade partners, but some people just like to make someone's day. Or piss off that persons wife for so many boxes coming to the house.

i've sent out a few bombs because i was able to hit multiple wants and it's cool for people to get stoked about it, plus i live in the beer nexus known as Portland and it's fun to send people awesome the under-the-radar stuff from out here.
i've had people drop a bomb back on me which i didn't expect and it was awesome.
i've also had people say they would bomb me back and then our next trade is them hitting the minimum of our agreement with no extras and no communication after that.

    conclusion: YMMV
