If your new to BA, with little or no posts, and no trade history every person here will ask you to ship first, it's most certainly not just a me thing.. Nothing personal here.

Actually two, working things out mentioned being new they ship first and offered references. Completely dark after that. Maybe they just cruise the ISO/FT site, and thought it might be useful to put such a thing here in case they stumble into it. Everybody will ask this, you ship 1st.

Why is this such a complicated concept? Boggles the mind. You'd think people would inherently understand that nobody knows them from a hole in the wall and they need to prove they're not scammers.

I've traded with new guys and they turned out to be great traders, johnny29er this week, Good guy good trader, but he didn't complain about shipping first. I get suspicious when you mention that offer your references and they're gone.

Trust me, having noobs not want to ship first is the easiest method of identifying folks with whom you are better not to trade.

I would go so far as to say that it would be reasonable to ask for the other party to ship first if they reference <5 trades, depending on how long they've been on BA and what they've contributed. With the way a lot of these new guys operate, 3-4 trades could possibly mean that they've been at this for only a week.

A perfect example of this is my recent trade with Johnny_Beerdrinker. He was only on BA for about a month and had no trade references. I asked if he would mind shipping first and he said no problem. Turns out he sent me some of the best quality extras I've received! And yes, this doubles as a shameless promotion of Johnny_Beerdrinker  Definitely a badass trader from my experience!

So new guys, don't take it personally, but rather as an opportunity to make a great name for yourself!

Completely agreed. To me it's a function of number of trades and time/activity on site. Even if you've done 5 trades but only joined 3 months ago and don't post much in the forums or do reviews, you're still a prime candidate for flaking out. Many bad traders were good right up until they got bored of the hobby and then moved on to something else mid-trade.

We've also seen a couple of scammers who build up 5-10 solid trades with good history, then line up a bunch of trades at once with the full intention of running away. A guy did this in a BIF I ran.

You really can't be too cautious until a user has been around for a while.

Seems reasonable to me. I've only done 3 trades on here, so I would have no problem at all sending first (and have done so)

I've been on here since 2010 but recently got into trading... I don't even mind sending first if they have many more trades and references but a later start date. Seems fair, but if they are later date and hardly any references, there's no question they should ship first.
It is kinda sketchy when you tell someone they have to ship first and suddenly they're silent.

This is absolutely a wise tactic. I've had a few new traders agree to ship first and then go completely radio silent the day they were supposedly going to ship. Never heard from any of them ever again...

Less than 25 trades = ship first
Under a year on the forum no matter how many trades = ship first

You slept on my couch without checking my references.

Then again, I let you sleep on my couch without checking yours :stuck_out_tongue:

Shipping first is a great opportunity. Murder their porch and they'll feel inclined to do the same..

Thisssssss. I especially want to crush the porch of a new trader because it pays dividends down the line for myself + the community. I did it for Benny3000 -- I have no idea if he's a good trader, but he's definitely funny as fuck, so that worked out just fine.

I'm relatively new here and have done a couple of trades since I've joined. I think it's totally reasonable to ship first, which I've done both times.

The only thing I wish I knew when shipping my first trade was the amount of extras. I've heard from a friend that it's common practice and inserted a bottle of a local brew in my box during my first trade. But the guy was far more generous than me, which made me feel that I didn't do enough on my part at the time.

Only done 2 trades so far with my 3rd one going out monday, both times I offered to ship first but the guys sent out at the same time anyway, first order is I make sure to get them a tracking number so maybe that helps. Downside was one of them really gave me some great extras and I felt bad I only sent two 12 oz extras.

For everyday locals I don't think it's a big deal, but for special releases and harder to get brews that would be different.
