Hey folks I was hoping some of you might be able to point me in the right direction of some really solid amber ales out there. I prefer strong malt/caramel/biscuit notes with a good medium/medium full body. I'm not a huge hops fan though I'm willing to try ones with a higher IBU.

    Thanks!

Anderson Valley Boont is really good if you can get it. So is Caldera Amber.

Also look for ESBs, and again Anderson Valley has a nice one, but Fuller's is a classic. When Autumn rolls around see if you can get Southern Tier Harvest Ale, very much in that family.

For a more balanced Pale Ale I'd go with Great Lakes Burning River.

IMO..Tango is right on with Fullers. If you can get Bells Amber Ale, I think you will be pleased

If you're willing to try a bit more bitter- try Troegs Hopback Amber. In the ESB territory, if you can find Alesmith Anvil, that has an excellent biscuity flavor. Other than that- oktoberfests might suit your needs. Ayinger, Sam Adams, any other german brewery you can get your hands on. Lots of caramel and biscuity flavors.

New Belgium Fat Tire is a nice Amber Ale. Stone Brewing Levitation Ale is one of the better ones that is really widely distributed.

Maybe the one that would best suit what you are looking for is Redhook Brewing's CopperHook

My favorites are Bear Republic Red Rocket and Ale Asylum Ambergeddon. I have enjoyed Bell's Amber as well, and Hinterland Amber.

When we finally get Bell's (in NY, at least- I haven't heard anything about NJ yet) I'll have to get some of that Amber. Seems like a good one, and I'm looking forward to trying it, especially based on how often it's popped up in this thread.

My favorite more traditional malty reds are probably Fat Tire, Anderson Valley Boont, Bell's Amber, and Belfast Bay Lobster Ale.

Opening the arena to hoppier beers that aren't super-hoppy "red IPAs" ala Nugget Nectar and it's ilk, I'd also recommend Bear Republic Red Rocket, Red Nectar, and Stone Levitation.

The recommendation for English ESBs is spot-on too, Fullers is really the style benchmark and one I'd highly recommend you try. I find Southern Tier Harvest to be on the hoppier side for an ESB to be quite honest.

All the above mentioned are good. I would just add in Red Seal from California. Excellent stuff

Highland Gaelic Ale is a good amber and one of my top three go-to beers. For the breadiness you mention, I throw my vote to Fuller's.

Thanks everyone, this is a great starting off point!

Definitely going to keep an eye for the Bell's and Fuller's. For those Red IPAs would any of those be similar to Lagunitas Lucky 13? I really enjoyed that beer - for the such a high IBU I barely picked up any hop flavors/bitterness.

I second the Highland Gaelic Ale, also obviously can't go wrong with Fat Tire as others have stated. When in season, I suggest giving Troegs Nugget Nectar a try. It is hoppy, but absolutely delicious!

edit: I guess it's not officially an "amber ale", but still malty, caramelly, and amber colored

So solid, as is Hopback, but I think both might be too hoppy for the OP.
