Good morning hounds of hops and pundits of pints! I hope this message finds you preparing for another fine day of all things new and fermented in our snifters, tulips, or nonics! Thank you all for bearing with me the last two weeks as I filed NBS from my phone. I'm glad to be back on my PC for this week's entry. Weather in Central OH has been warm and muggy. Definitely not as hateful as some August summers but still worth grabbing a sessionable beer and staying hydrated.

This New Beer Sunday finds me in a different place than where I have been for 16 months. I WON’T be tied to my PC all day reading, writing, or studying for school. I submitted my last paper on Thursday and I’m a free man! I’ve been sampling all sorts of beer over the last couple of days to celebrate. We’ll see how today goes. The family has something up their sleeve as I’m supposed to be “dressed and ready to go” at 2pm. Hopefully, I’ll have some time to log back in and share some NBS goodies.

Regardless of my whereabouts our mission here today is unchanged. This is the forum and thread to share a new beer you sampled today. A good description is the only “pay to play” requirement. Linked reviews and pictures always add to the experience. Please, only comments after you’ve tried your beer and review previous weeks if you need to get the hang of it.

It’s been fun to keep up on the consistent contributors, see the “long time follower, first time poster” people, and watch for brand new peeps add to this weekly staple. You do not have to be an expert beer reviewer to contribute. Thanks for keeping NBS fresh, informative, and fun. Good day and good drinkin’.

    Peace, love, and malty-ness,

    Matt

Happy NBS BAs! A cool and rainy Sunday in Southern WI. Too bad I will miss the Perseid meteor shower this year. It was fantastic last year. My daughter turned 4 yesterday so it has been a fun weekend. May have to take the girls to the library today. Drinking a great import today. My review of this big coffee stout that is full of bitter chocolate and dark fruits. I recommend trying it if you find it. Hope everyone has some great new beers today!

Happy New Beer Sunday everyone. I spent the week pondering the strange and abrupt changes in temperature and wondering if I am really ready for fall. I live in what you would call central or upstate new york and we get a lot of snow and hard winter weather. Most recently we had a severe thunderstorm. It was terrible. And I mean "terrible" in the most old fashioned sense. The lighting was cracking, the power going on and off, and it felt as though the sky had fallen. The thunder was shaking my old apartment building. It was so loud and I could feel it in my stomach. The flash floods that ensued were temporary except for all the "road rocks" that washed up onto the sidewalk and into yards. Anyway . . .

I have been waiting all week to try this beer. Allagash Curieux. I think the tripel is an absolutely sublime beer style and this one was a rare an unexpected treat. Thank you Matt for one of my favoriite weekly threads.

Howdy, Matt. Good day to you sir, and all other BAs. Technically, I tried the Left Hand Vol 4 Fade 2 Black last night, so I will be talking about this RedHook ESB I am trying for the first time, today. Poured into a Wheat glass, it has a nice deep golden color, sort of cloudy and very reminiscient of an IPA.. Head is about, oh maybe an a half inch or so, but dies quickly to about 1/16th. Oddly, I'm not pickin' up much aroma. Taste is not much, either. If anything, I get some sort of faint plum taste. Hate to say it, but this is not a great beer. Not bad, but just something I won't pick up again.

So the style itself is pretty new to me. I've only had Schell Star of the North to compare this to. Overall the peach really comes through on the nose. Overall taste is very crisp, completely refreshing burst of summer in a bottle. Wish I had gotten more than just the 1 bottle in a trade now, as I could see myself buying a 3-4 sixers to keep as a regular in the beer fridge all spring/summer.

Had some fresh white nectarines along with breakfast, with some sugar on top to bring some of the juices out. Poured a few ounces of the beer right into the bowl full to get all the goodness. Killed the nectarines after the eggs, and poured the beer juice into my glass. Wow, ended up being perfect. That little bit of sugar and natural sugars from the fruit really brought this to the next level. I see why adding a simple syrup flavor of your choice to a Berliner is so popular.

Well done Dogfish Head!! For the limited exposure to the style, I'd give it a 4.5/5 for sure. Now I need more to try!

New American Wild Ale Sunday (week 442)

A beautiful summer day here on the ridge in Mid Hud Val NY, a day perfect for trying a refreshing American masterpiece, enjoying life, and thinking of how wonderful health and happiness and good friends are.

Thanks to all who sent kind wishes, and to those who sent beer to wish me a happy recovery. They have been enjoyed starting with an epic tasting Fri. evening, and now with this gem, the finest wild ale I have tried. Fully in my sweet spot for wilds, I ended up with a bit of a +rdev, but my thoughts about that are, what are those other folks tasting, haha?????

Hope you also have a Great American Beer in your glass. Cheeeers! -couple extra "e" to say it is entirely excellent to be able to enjoy beer once more

    New American Pale Ale Sunday!!!

Greetings to the NBS group from a beautiful day here at the Jersey Shore. Morning clouds have given way to bright warm sunshine. The air temp is 80, the pool water temp is 78; how good is that?
And I played golf today for the first time in six weeks. Everything's lovely.

This new beer from Victory Brewing in PA checks in as one of my favorite styles:http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/345/66281/?ba=NiceTaps

It's partly cloudy, but quite sunny and warm on this fine Sunday afternoon in northern New England. The perfect day for a Saison. I'm finally getting around to trying Brooklyn Sorachi Ace today. I had never had a beer with Sorachi Ace hops until a few weeks ago when Maine brewery Marshall Wharf started canning their Ace Hole Pale Ale. Then Sierra Nevada's Beer Camp pack had a "Belgian-style" black IPA with Sorachi Ace, and now I'm trying a beer single-hopped with Sorachi. Kind of crazy how I had gone from never having this hop variety to having three different beers featuring it within a month. But I digress, onto the beer at hand.

I split the 750 ml bottle between my large tulip (my go to Saison glass) and one of my Ommegang Game of Thrones glasses. It smells very grassy and lemony. The taste is the same, slightly citrusy and bready. I get quite a prickling on my tongue between the spicyness and high carbonation.

I really enjoy Saisons but pretty much only do them during the hot summer months. I'll be looking for this one again next year.

    Happy NBS.
    My first from Gigantic Brewing
Overall this is a pretty enjoyable brew. A little one-dimensional as far as West Coast IPAs go. [30/50 bjcp]

Appearance: Deep gold/amber in color. Small, compact head with tight lacing. Clarity could be improved, but not a major problem. [2/3]

Aroma: wide range of hop varietals: citrus, herbal, and grassy (no floral though). Malt subdued. [7/12]

Flavor: Medium bitterness. Citrus smacks upfront. Predominant lemon / grass / herbal flavor from hops. Nice flavor, no overly complex. [10/20]

Mouthfeel: Almost creamy, but with a nice lingering resinous finish. Not terribly sessionable, however the feel of this beer is great. [5/5]

Overall: Love the feel and the beer is good overall. Would recommend a try on tap (a little pricey for the bomber). [6/10]

Greetings fellow NBSers! A cloudy and somewhat cool morning here in the City of Subdued Excitement (yes, that's actually our unofficial nickname), we had a warm, sunny week and I want my summer back. I got to see some of the set from one of my favorite musicians last night, Samuel James, from the Home of the Blues, Portland Maine! http://therealsamueljames.com/ My first new brew today is a somewhat surprisingly enjoyable brew from a brewery that generally disappoints me: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/8/91718/?ba=beertunes . I've got a couple others lined up, so I'll see y'all later!

    New Am. IPA Sunday

    Greetings All,

A little damp with slight gloom in SCMN after a night with nearly 1 inch of rain. That was appreciated by all, I would think. This week is fair week in my little neck of the woods and in this town it is a big deal. My role is co-running of the quaintly named "Homemade Beer" contest. Good fun, but busy, busy, busy week. Thus, not much time for commercial new beers as I'll be sampling many "new beers" this week. Some better than others.

This week my entry is probably a beer most have had, but it took me this long to get to it. I assume a kinda' classic West Coast IPA. It's pretty darn good. Quite a bit better than the average BA score.

I firmly agree with garymuchow, his NBS entry is an excellent brew. I wonder if it gets a lower score here because it's from a "larger" brewery and is easily available at a very reasonable price? My second entry reminds why this brewery doesn't generally impress me much. Well, win some, lose some:http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/8/64786/?ba=beertunes

AleSmith arrived in WI this past week, so I had to grab the IPA for NBS. It was bottled on July 20.
Reminds me of Two Hearted mixed with Stone Ruination. Review up for this very nice IPA and well priced!
