So, I was going to the beach this week and was looking for some cheap IIPAs for the evenings before the wine comes out. Favorite beer store, boom, a bomber case of Rampant unopened for 32.99. It's 3 days from the best buy date.. So I bought it anyways and I must say it was one of the best price wise purchases I've ever made. I admit, I never tried the beer fresh, so I can't compare but at under 3$ a bomber I'm hoping they have another case when I get back. I know the majority is all about the freshness of IPAs, and I am too when paying big dollar. What says you? Would you buy stuff like this on the regular if it was warm and in a sealed case and borderline old, but dirt cheap?

I wouldn't take a case of old IPA for free.

Honestly, I wouldn't, but if you enjoyed it, then who am I to tell you otherwise?

Rampant bombers are pretty damn cheap as it is, I don't know that the savings on the older case would have sold me on the purchase. I would have picked up a case of 24-12oz bottles of a fresh IPA at that price.

I wasn't a fan when it was fresh but...if it works for you, that is really all that counts.

@ $3 a bomber can it really be worse than a 40 of something else? Great price if you ask me. Sure it might not be uber fresh, but that is why it was only $3 a bomber. Nice steal.

Sounds like a steal to me. It seems like I'm in the minority when it comes to Rampant, but it's way affordable and always pretty fresh at my local grocery store.

The one I had tasted like old rotten onions. Not my idea of fun.

If your a malt fan why not? Lots of guys who like BW's and the like enjoy aged DIPA's. Not my taste, but everyone's different.

If I were to spend $8-10 on something that tastes like onion and garlic...

I'd buy some pizza. I didn't like this beer even when it was fresh.

Considering it's $8 a six pack, you should be able to score a fresh case of them for around the same price.
    Lagunitas Maximus too.

Hell if I was going to be sharing it with others, as in drinking it all in one day, I would buy it by all means. However, for personal consumption, a case of an old IPA isn't something I would invest in since it would take me a while to drink it.

I sometimes *like* certain IPA's with a little bit of age on them. Not most, but some. Certain hop notes just don't do it for me when fresh, but when they mellow out, things click.
In the case of Rampant I think it has a lot of fruity character. Melon, strawberries, and just a little pine on the back end. I'd imagine the pine would be the first thing to go, so that might work out well if that's what you want.

I don't touch any IPAs with more than 60 days on them. With most the flavor just falls off too dramatically after that. If you liked it though, more power to you.

I have found that ipa's of any sort last longer chilled.

Update; I'm 7 out of 12 bombers down... These were just to serve as my daytime beers. We have done a 10,11,&12 Founders RIS vert, and downed a couple 6 packs of 12 Bigfoot. All in all, a good cheap choice for daytime beach beers, albeit higher abv than necessary, I'm happy with my 30$ off purchase.
