So the other day I heard that Speedway 2011 was drinking great. Unfortunately I don't have an '11 but I do have a '10 and a '12. If I cuvée then will I end up with an '11? I realize I might not be able to do a straight 50/50 blend, but has anyone else had luck with this? If so what have you tried it with. I'd really like to make an '09 KBS.

I don't see how mixing two beers aged for a different amount of time would some how equal a beer aged in the middle of those times.

I would think it would be best to just drink them as is. No mixing. But i've never tried it.

You can't average them? If they are the same recipe beer wouldn't an older one and a newer one blend to average out assuming they were stored similarity.

Of course you can, that's how math works. (10+12)/2 = 11.

I understood what you meant. But aging beers acquire different tastes during different parts of aging(as we know). Like peaks and valleys.

So we have to assume a beer say aged for one year will taste different then one aged for 3. So the only way to get the taste of the beer aged for 2, would be to have that beer itself. Or you would be just mixing the flavors of a 1 year aged and 3 year aged beer. Not recreating a 2nd year aged.

    Thats what I would think.

I did this blend myself recently. Using 2010 and 2012 BCBS. I called it Bourbon County Brand Geueze. Tasted like a 2011 BCBS

But by that logic the beer aged for 3 years would be older and the one aged 1 year would be fresher so therefore it would create something in between, again assuming the same aging process. I really feel like the only way to get a proper cuvée blend would be to do a side by side.

Certainly would be interesting to try if you had a 11 side by side with the mix.

Adding different years while hoping that the mixture will equal a wholly separate year? Yea it doesn't work that way bud. That's like mixing orange juice and banana juice and hoping that will equal strawberry juice.

I have made an Abyss cuvée though, using 07-12 vintages. It was damn fine and tasty! I honestly don't know why deschutes doesn't offer this, aside from the whole storage and profit standpoint.

Your example doesn't work because it's two completely separate things with different bases, oranges and bananas. If you mixed them you'd get orange/banana juice..obviously not strawberries. Just like if I mixed Heady and CBS I would not expect Veritas 004, but rather Heady CBS. Not what I'm going for here.

Thanks for the heads up on the Abyss one though I'll have to give that a try, through I only have it back to 09.

If I'm 30 and i slept with an 18-yr old - does that mean we'd create a 24-yr old? Please advise.

Oh yes I see now, very astute. 09 Abyss is really good if you get a good infected bottle.

So you're saying a blend of 08 and 10 has a good chance of becoming infected?

Of course not, that would be silly. I'm saying it would become Dark Lord.

Damn good to know, might give it a shot. Any blends that you are aware of which will make a Barrel Aged DL?

I wonder why blends don't trader higher on the forums, it seems you can make some good stuff. I guess people really want it in the original bottle. Plus there is likely carb loss, but oh the possibilities.

Miller Chill and Fat tire 60/40 will give you any beer brewed in Arkansas. Also, La Folie and Hop Venom (Boneyard) tastes eerily similar to DDG.
