"I have been toying with the idea of buying or making my own liquor cabinet for a couple of years now. I am about to have a child so I will eventually need one. "

Lets see now, bringing home baby we will need bottles, diapers, receiving blanket.........and a liquor cabinet.

Vacuum tubes are made of glass. The glass is probably fine, unless it's something that's super carbed. The cap/cork is what would likely fail, and even then that would probably be fine.

You are effectively adding about 14psi of pressure to the bottle. Some glass bottles are extremely thin and break quite easily (bottle bombs). The thing everyone is missing, is that vacuum jar has a conductive base, allowing heat to flow in through conduction. Not to mention the cost of a vacuum pump and a system large enough to store beer in.

The cap was where I was going. I don't think it would hold...

No, the thing that everyone's missing is that LEEDORHAM WAS JOKING.

The real question is whether to paint the liquor cabinet pink or blue.

I've sand-aged many beers and find it to be the only way to go.

Because what could be better at the level of a new baby (bottom of liquor cabinet) than hundreds of pounds of sand? Simply genius

This is the only reason that sand and a bottle need to be in contact with each other.

you would get more surface contact with the sand if you emptied your bottles into a 64oz growler that was already filled with sand most of the way. Make sure you cap on the foam to keep the bubbles in!

This. You'd need a cooling source and then the insulation would reduce the amount of work for the cooling source. Insulation in and of itself does nothing to cool or warm something.

If you have a basement or yard: root cellar.

There's a reason it's called beer cellar and not a beer sandbox. If you want a beer sandbox go to Mexico, get a bucket of Corona, and have at it.

If you live in a state with karst topography like Kentucky, look into purchasing a home with a cave in the backyard. Might have to put a chain link fence over the entrance though to keep looters from stealing your rare beers!!!!!!

The OP's title to this post at least suggests that he/she recognizes this idea may be weird. Some of you are a bit harsh.

With that said, I'd use your beer cellar as an ashtray.
