That is like saying most auto related deaths in America are caused by people who drive a Ford, Chrysler or GM vehicle. No shit.

A page I follow shared a graphic comparing pot to beer as far as injuries, health effects, and such, and especially drinking and driving. I tried to point out that generalizing and blaming beer in its entirety was unfair, as most irresponsible drinkers probably weren't drinking craft beer, simply because vastly more people drink macro (let alone hard liquor) than craft beer. I was trying to defend beer from being demonized, but evidently the users of that page got the impression that I thought craft beer didn't get you drunk or something, as their rebuttal was basically "craft beer gets you drunk too." Wow, really? I didn't know that.

I'm laughing my ass off about alcohol epidemiologists existing. I'm not entirely sure why I think it's funny, but I do.

Also, this news is terribly unsurprising. "Fast food eaters are more prone to heart attacks" level of unsurprising.

Since they're going off total numbers rather than adjusted ratios, I don't think it should come as any surprise that Budweiser came in at #1.

I agree, but this would be like saying people who eat at hardees or checkers gets more heart attacks than mcdonalds. hence why its interesting. I think this article speaks more to the behavior associated with mass volume drinking which seems to be the focaus of BMC advertising (ie, which new can/bottle adaptation makes chugging easier?").

    Correlation does not imply causation.

"Though Jernigan was quick to point out that no conclusions could be made about beer or malt liquor advertising, pricing, or even consumption based on the study since it was too small – 105 patient interviews -- and took place in only one hospital in Baltimore in mostly black neighborhood, he proved such research was possible."

Or said another way, this study offers little in the way of meaningful data.

As someone who works in an ER, I can tell you that many of the hardcore alcoholics don't go near beer because it's too low in alcohol to get them drunk. These people need a fifth of liquor to even get buzzed, and often turn to the cheapest liquors as well as things like White Rain hairspray and Listerine, both of which have a lot of alcohol and are very cheap.

I didn't notice the box on the admission form for "what were you drinking when this happened?"

[Which beer causes most ER visits?]

Depends on what's on tap at the ER.

With Steel Reserve a close second.
Hey, I was young once, I would have been a statistic 10 years ago.

Also, I can't but help think of this wonderful quote:
"A bland, timid entry. Suitable, perhaps, for patients recovering from surgery."

    The numbers are staggering

"......or Steel Reserve. It has only .8 percent of the market nationally, but accounted for 14.7 percent of the E.R. market"
