If Mexican beers tend to rate so poorly, why buy them when you can spend less on an equally mediocre American product? Are there any good ones?

Disregarding the actual craft beers being brewed in Mexico, I'd say that Bohemia is actually pretty tasty and Negra Modelo is okay as well. I'd take either of them over any normal American macro or light lagers.

    1. You are lazy and didn't do you research, are stuck with limited options, and can't do without some sort of alcohol delivery system.

I don't spend my money on "Mexican beers" or "mediocre American products". Problem solved.

if you like corona with lime or something, try some other bullshit pale lager with lime (say, put a lime wedge in your keystone light). does it taste as good? then maybe there's no reason to bother. does it not? well, maybe keep buying corona.

as for craft beer, there's good mexican craft beer (google it). buy what you like.

    ---

p.s. of course, i don't see why you'd waste your time or money on piss beer from any country. again, buy what you like though.

Negra Modelo is a staple at any Mexican restaurant I go to.

Noche Buena is good too, but only a seasonal product. At least it is finally available stateside.

They go down easily, especially with some spicy food.

Some of the better Mexican Macros have already been mentioned.
Aside from those, several craft breweries have been spawning in the last 5 years or so. In general, you would be hard pressed to find better mexican craft than what you guys get in the US. There are some worthy efforts out there, but we're still far behind. Why bother? Well some of us like to drink local and encourage the industry.

My parents drank Corona more often than anything else. When I discovered that they had to pay extra for that "privilege," I was baffled. Heineken is in the same boat. I can at least comprehend the desire for a Miller Lite, but paying 50-100% more for an import that's just as terrible is something I've never understood.

Because when I'm on the beach, a boat, or in Cabo, a Pacifico with a dash of salt kicks ass!

    1. Because you are in a Mexican restaurant and the alternatives are BMC.
    2. Because you are IN Mexico!

Are you talking strictly Mexican BMC beers? Most of those are whatever, but there is actually a rise in Mexican craft breweries. I can't comment on those, as I haven't tried any, but I do know they sell beers from one Mexican craft brewery at a store near me (http://www.dayofthedeadbeer.com/). Just haven't picked any up yet.
