    Anyone used these guys?

    http://www.web-bier.de/

Postage to UK is really reasonable and I calculate (with postage) a crate of Augustiner Edelstoff works out just over £1.60 a bottle!

    Anyone any experience?

    Cheers!

Never heard of them, and they seem to have a rather small range of beers. But if you just want the Augustiner shipped to the UK and the price is reasonable, give it a try and report us back!
    Other suggestions would be:
www.bierzwerg.de (huge selection of German -especially Franconian and Bavarian- and international beers)
    www.mein-biershop.de (focussed on Bavarian beers)
www.biershop-bayern.de (the name says it all)
I don't know though if any of them delivers outside of Germany/Austria/Switzerland. Maybe they do upon request?

How about British web shops offering German beers?

Ditto the above. Never used the bier-web.de guys, but I've used Bierzwerg & Biershop Bayern without a hiccup and it was delivered within days. I can fully recommend them. The only downside to Bierzwerg is that it's a German only site. The other 2 are in both English and German. The upside is that Mein Biershop & Bierzwerg arecheaper, if I remember correctly, and allows you to order by the bottle, whereas Biershop Bayern forces you to buy a minimum of 9 or each beer.

I just noticed Mein Biershop has Kneitinger Edel-Pils, one of my favorite Pils ever, so I think I'll be trying them out soon.

Tell us how you fare with your order and what you order. If you need any help deciding or recommendations, we're all experts here in this forum… well, most think we are. I'm sure you could get a decent recommendation or 2 if you're looking for a specific type of style.

Also, check out the thread Bayernbiere, Bought and Drunk for our live taste tests, and the other thread Fernseh-Pils-a-thon for those not to drink.

Ah, for the days when Frank Wetzel ran his online beer shop in Bamberg and shipped to the US. Of course, the dollar was worth more than the Euro then so it made it a better deal. We determined that 3 5-liter Party Fässer was the sweet spot, shipment wise (plus less chance of breakage). Made for some memorable "Beer on the Patio" weekends

Funny, most of the nights I spent drinking with Frank (and his/my friend Joerg) were somehow the opposite of "memorable."

Also, I ran into him totally unplanned last summer in Schlenkerla. He had just taken a visitor from Chicago on a tour of the two-dozen or so Keller around Forchheim. Not sure he remembers our "reunion"...

Especially the original Kloster Scheyern-beers are great and are quite hard to find. I like them much better than their contract-brewed mass-product sold under nearly the same name nationwide...

I didn't know there was a difference! I was already a bit surprised when I saw Kloster Scheyern in my local Rewe.

Well got an email tonight saying parcel was packed and UPS would pick up tomorrow.

    I couldn't find a translation but what's a solar beer?

Heard about that somewhere before. I think the brewery produces its own energy with solar cells on their roof. Which one is it?

Both the Scheyern helles and dunkel say Solar bier

I didn't realise there was an original and different contract brew either. I remember enjoying the doppelbock

There is not much choice or value online when it comes to German beer in the UK, obviously this is because you are also paying the duty on top which you skip when buying direct from Germany for yourself.

I have noticed that you can get Paulaner Original for £1.58 a bottle from Majestic if you buy 24 and collect from the store (it just misses out on free delivery), not the best but good for a Municher Hell fix which is hard to come by over here.

Well the parcel arrived yesterday, all well packaged in excellent condition.

All in all, ordering Sunday evening and receiving Wednesday was pretty good! (Obviously UPS had a had in that)

All the bottles had best before dates well into 2014, apart from the Kloster Scheyern Dunkel which is Oct 2013.

Definitely wouldnt hesistate to use them again, hopefully they'll expand their range!

    Cheers!

Thankfully due to a few websites here in UK/great traders I've always managed to get my hands on great German bier, it's just becoming too pricey to buy them here. So it's nice to find cheaper reliable sources.

A review of the Scheyern Hell will be posted in the Bayernbiere later

    Zum Wohl!
