For those curious about one of Vermont's newest breweries and the homebrewer who's turning professional, I posted an interview with Four Quarters Brewing brewer. Brewery is expected to open in late 2013.

    Below is an excerpt.

The brewery will be open a couple days a week (mostly weekends and Friday evenings to start, I think). Brian is getting construction permits and work done now and hopes to be open in a few months. He already has his equipment, but doesn't have the drains and other modifications done to the building yet.

Yet another Green Mountain Masher homebrew club member heads to commercial brewing - the next Sean Lawson, perhaps?

Patersbier seems to be the it style this year. Any idea about the significance of the name? It's an interesting one, and I'd be curious to know the back story.

I've heard people attribute the rise of Patersbier's in America to Kris England, who is now a brewer/owner(?) of Pour Decisions in MN. He created the Patersbier kit from Northern Brewer. Idle Hands' Patriarch is the best example I've had from an American brewery (imo).

Someone discovered it was a better marketing term than the more generic-sounding Belgian Pale Ale?

Haha. I should have been more clear: I meant the name Four Quarters, not patersbier.

That's what I thought you meant, so I responded, then I thought you meant patersbier and deleted my post.

Here's the answer from Brian Eckert,

Upon further review...not quite sure how I misread that one!

Looks like a cool spot.. I've only been to Winooski a couple times, but the small downtown around the roundabout seems like it could be an up-and-coming spot--it'll be nice to be able to check out a brewery nearby in the future.

What will your "flagship" beer be?
    Primary styles?
I'm loving Berliners as of late, what fruited Berliners might you offer?
Will you have any food at the taproom?

I don't want to label any as flagship just yet, but I'll be focusing a lot of my efforts on this Patersbier style. I'll be doing a few variations of this as well - a heavily hopped version, a double version (tripel), and some other experiments.

The primary styles I'll be starting off with will be strongly Belgian-influenced: patersbier, tripels, dark strongs, wits, sours, and a large variety of saisons.
You can also expect to see several seasonal varieties, as well as a couple different IPAs, a few smoked beers, imperial stout, barleywine, and lots of barrel aging.
There's no getting around that I come from a homebrewing past, so experimentation and creativity will be staples.

I'm a big fan of Berliner Weisses as well, and I definitely plan to have one of those in rotation regularly. I have some plans for them that I'm not willing to divulge just yet, but if you like fruited versions, you will love this.

No plans for food in the tasting room just yet, but the possibilities are there for sure. I've talked with the guy form Green Mountain Grillbilly who has a food truck/trailer that serves smoked meats. If you know anyone with a food truck have them get in touch with me. The location is set up perfectly for it.

    Cheers!
