So I'm sure at this point everyone knows about the infection issues with Rare DOS. I E-Mailed Doug regarding this and was told some sort of restitution (I would assume a new beer) would be forthcoming for the mess up for those of us who purchased the growlers.

Anyways he also stated that Aug 21st would be the deadline for the restitution, and I haven't heard word one. Anyone else?

He said that the 21st would be the deadline for letting him know you got a bad bottle, not that restitution would be made by then. They originally thought that a "make up" beer would be ready this month, but as we know, BA beer is ready when its ready. I'm sure Doug will announce the beer and a date when they know.

From his email to me -

"I have all your info now logged in and you will be contacted around the 21st with the details of our plan to make amends. The deadline for full compensation is Aug. 21"

Mine says he would send an email after the 21st deadline. Wouldn't worry too much Pegs has handled this like a champ! Extremely impressed with how they're trying to make this right!

Doug's response from the original thread.

We have a plan for those who have gotten bad growlers, we won't reveal the details here but would like to put a clock on this whole situation. We are going to say that the growlers, while issued with no guarantee because they are growlers, should have lasted a month, our hope was more but a month for your average growler isn't bad. I wouldn't be all that interested in a growler over a month old stored in unknown conditions and I suspect most people feel the same. We are not saying I told you so regarding drinking fresh and in no way want to try to blame shipping, storage, or "handling" as a cop out for taking responsibility.
The last growler left Peg's on July 21st so that means Aug 21st is the last day to be part of the Peg's Fucked Up Club (working title) and so we encourage people still holding growlers to open them, enjoy if possible and if not please get in touch with us directly at [email protected].
The only way to make sure your name gets added is to send an email, we are reaching out to people here but we need real names and emails so we can be assured we account for everybody.
We are doing everything we can to rebuild trust after this incident and we hope to earn a second chance with everybody. Bad growlers opened after the 21st will certainly still be met with our concern and possibly something else however our plan for the majority of people requires a firm date.
For those who have had good bottles, we hope you enjoyed them, opened another tonight at the pub and it was dare I say, splendid. We appreciate everybody's passion for great beer and their patience while we sort this out.
If anybody reading this knows somebody who may not be on this forum or is holding bottles please pass the message along, we are not trying to cut this off and get away with selling bad beer but we honestly needed to set a deadline without inciting panic since there are most certainly plenty of tasty Rare DOS growlers still out there.

That doesn't really mesh with my "The deadline for full compensation is Aug. 21" obviously there were some ambiguous claims in my E-Mail.

I think Pegs is referring to the fact that emails received after the 21st won't be getting the same compensation as emails received before the 21st, not that we would know by the 21st

You are in no way entitled to another beer. You will get what you get when you get it and you should probably thank your lucky stars that even that is happening. I see no reason to bitch about a brewery going out of their way to make something like this right.

No not at all. After all the consumer (me and others) should be happy that the QC on this highly acclaimed batch of beer was thoroughly botched *In some/most cases*. I should be happy I drove 140 miles round trip in anticipation of a premium product that was bolstered as extraordinary and fell quite short of said expectations. I should be thankful that others in my trading circle traded other highly acclaimed beers for my infected bottles.

In an age where businesses live and die by the quality of their product or service it comes as no surprise they are scrambling to find a resolution. It's not entitlement it's called standing behind your product. This particular establishment lives on the infamy of these few beers. If they decided to cash in and give the middle finger to everyone that bought this beer, they would certainly be a few seasons from closing their doors.

If you ever go to the grocery store and get a bad gallon of milk, rotten eggs, cereal with weevils or otherwise pay a premium price for a product that fell short of your expectations; I expect you to pour that curdled milk on that cereal and eat up champ, because you don't deserve a damn thing.

Spoke with Doug a few days ago and know the replacement beer. Unfortunately for you assholes, I will not divulge because it will become crazy knowledge since you cant keep anything to yourselves and they place will erupt for FT:ISO threads.

I cant wait to see the look on peoples faces when they get word of what it is.................. Off to the bowling alley for cheap drinks

It's a growler. I'd hold it up to growler expectations and consider it bad within three days, much like you wouldn't expect a gallon of milk to have a sell by any more than two weeks after it's "bottled". There's no "QC" on a growler, I'm not sure if you're familiar with the concept of a growler, but it's beer poured from a tap into a resealable bottle. The beer was perfectly fine when it hit the glass, and would have been perfectly enjoyable if you popped the growler open that night, as is perfectly typical for growlers. The release wasn't bolstered as extraordinary, it was posted up for release on Facebook with no advance warning. The only one who bolstered it was you. Peg's doesn't live on the infamy of Rare/Rarer/Nooner, they live on the business of locals, which has absolutely nothing to do with your "trading circle".

Peg/Cycle saying they expect their growlers to last a month is extremely generous, and offering restitution for growlers that are bad 30 days after being poured is pretty amazing.

So what you're insinuating here is they put their beer into a container that subsequently infected it? Never the less it was a screw up and the consumer deserves to have it rectified. I'm not speaking of the release being bolstered as extraordinary but rather the reputation of the beer which is evident by the ratings and reviews it recieves.

If pegs doesn't run on the infamy of these beers perhaps they should stop brewing. Surely the revenue of their food can keep them afloat.

If my gallon of milk spoiled early I would simply poor it out and go buy another one. If the grocery store decided to make it right awesome, I would however not bitch about them not making it right a few hours after I perceived the "deadline" to pass. You sir need to get over yourself. Just because you spend money at a business does not give you the right to be a self important douche about issues like this. They will make it right and have communicated as such. Put on your big boy pants and have some patience.

It received those ratings because of previous batches being excellent. The majority of this batch was also excellent. You seem to be under the impression that being a consumer somehow puts you above the business. Peg's will do fine without you and your business. Your arrogance amazes me.

I could not possibly disagree with this post more. Seriously. I couldn't disagree with a single molecule of my being more. You could say OJ Simpson was innocent and yet I would not disagree more.

First off the literature major in me disagrees with the statement that Cycle Brewing/Peg's "lives on the infamy of these few beers." Buy a dictionary, look up the definition of infamy, it is not what you mean. In fact they are trying to avoid exactly that.

They could in fact decide to give everyone a gigantic middle finger and they would probably survive. They are hardly the first brewery to release an infected beer that was originally supposed to be fantastic. If you don't believe me please reference Peruvian Morning (multiple years), 07 pannepot (they even decided to release this later as pannepot wild), 09 Abyss, multiple CCB beers including a batch of guava grove that people still clamor for as well as a few that people don't want (I'm looking at you sea bass and the rum barrel big sound), and many others. For fuck's sake FFF released Bully Guppy and Tiberion Inquisitor and those weren't even infected, they were just horrible. All of the breweries who were mentioned or make the beers that were mentioned are still going strong even though they didn't go to nearly the same length that Peg's is.

Doug is doing everything he can to make this right not because he has to in order to stay in business, he is doing it because he cares. I don't know him personally on any level, but he must be someone who cares because he is even trying to help out those who traded for this beer all the way across the country. Most of these people will never set foot in Gulfport let alone eat a meal at a small restaurant on Beach Blvd. or go to the new brewery in St. Pete. This is a small operation. They don't have a gigantic lab to do QC tests with. They can taste the beer and that is about it, and when it was released it tasted fucking great. Please untwist your panties and be happy that they are trying to make this right.

Thank god pegs isn't run by individuals such as yourself. How could you even begin to marginalize the importance of a businesses product quality? They sell beer with the assumption that it will taste good, this did not. I paid over a dollar per once which is an incredible premium.

If you would like to deny the symbiotic relationship business's and consumers share by the producing quality and the consumer producing revenue then good day. Don't seek to marginalize the rights of others because you would rather spend your hard earned money on shit.

What I'm insinuating is that growlers are supposed to be kept cold and drank fresh, not traded in a hot FedEx truck and drank weeks after being filled. It's draft beer, to go.

I've had tons of growlers from Peg's (as recently as a growler of Fixie just last weekend), and have always been satisfied. The quality of their brews keeps me coming back as a local.

I bet your beer would have tasted fantastic when drank under the normal condition of a growler.

I'm sure Doug is dealing with a lot of emails for 'amends' beer right now. I know most of my trading partners received infected Rare, and I sent out about 2 cases worth (5 growlers even went to Sweden). He is also in the process of opening Cycle on Central Ave. Dealing with that, our bitching about infected growlers, and brewing his beer all at one time probably takes a toll. I would put away the pitchforks for the time being and let him do his thing.
