Don't know about bars, but if you buy a bottle of wine at a restaurant, you can legally brown-bag it home, provided they recork it for you. Don't think you can do that with BYOB. Not sure if it applies to beer either--just getting the wine bottle law passed was a signature achievement.

Any plans for food or other diversions (tv's, games, etc) while having a few beers?

No immediate plans for food. With our license/permits we can only sell prepackaged food. So we are considering doing that. For real food its probably not going to happen, besides the space/cost of doing food its a whole new set of regulations and permitting hell for us to navigate. Just getting the draft permit was a huge pain.

As for other diversions... we haven't thought about games or TV's. A TV would be easy enough to get. What kind of games would people want? Board games? Shuffleboard? Irish dancing? Hula hoops? haha. Open to ideas.

TV & shuffleboard for me. I'd be down for an extended visit on Saturday afternoon if some college pigskin was on.

No to the TV ... huge distraction IMO, anti-social as well unless you are looking to become a sports bar. ;-)

Just have some music in the back if you don't already. Board games, cards, etc are great ... darts though you'd probably need more insurance for that right?

Agreed on no TV. All for cards and corn hole, etc. type activities.

McDonalds is already next door. You can even get a Dunkins iced coffee and a lap dance on the way to Mystic.

    Aother vote for no TV.

Games? I'd like to walk in and see a bunch of beer geeks entangled on the floor in a giant game of twister.

well fuck trillium then, I will only buy from Night Shift, Idle Hands, Mystic, Jacks and all the other's that allow you to return the growlers from now on. Its bad enough that you have to buy an expensive container to take the beer home but to make it a one way purchase their beer would have to be pouring sheer gold in my eyes.
To buy a growler is an expensive layout but if you get the idea it is a refundable purchase it is not a deal breaker. Trillium needs to fall in line here or start to sell bottles.

Jane, I respectively disagree. I think your stance with them is a little harsh. Trillium has only been around for half a year. Maybe they will change their policy regarding growler buybacks in the future, maybe not. Either way, for all the money people on here probably spend on beer I think it is a little absurd to be up in arms over a paying $5 for a growler that you have to keep and use for beer at a specific brewery.

This is fantastic news. Living in Malden blows slightly less now that I can make the 5 minute drive and have a glass of Somerwiesse and shoot the shit while I decide what to have my growler filled with. The prices aren't out of line either, and I'm happy to see that they'll amend that list to reflect the actual ounces of liquid in the glass.
You guys are great, keep it up!!

I'll give you five bucks if it makes you feel better. I might have that much in change right now.

Agree with most of that, but sometimes you just want that extra fiver to go a long way. adding $5 extra to the already fairly high cost is rarely welcome. And for 32-oz glass, that cost adds an extra 50-60% to the cost of beer. It also may turn people off from buying beer--if I know that I get to keep every growler from Brewery X and somehow forget to bring the ones I already got, I just might turn around and go home, because the last thing I want is to clutter up my home with $5 growlers that I don't need. It's an issue of fairness and good will toward customers. Many people throw away returnable bottles because, as my friend once put it, they can throw away 20 of them for a dollar. If they charged $1 per growler, we wouldn't be having this conversation. Having to lug all those growlers for refills can also be a real pain. This means I can't just stop over after work and pick up a growler--I either have to plan to bring it with me to work for refill or to make a special trip. With returnable growlers I can collect a few of them, as I do with bottles and bring all the extras back one time. It makes a big difference, especially if you're on foot.

$5 doesn't seem bad until you want 5 fills and instead of spending that extra $25 on beer you spend it on glass you may never use again or use infrequently. I even like collecting glass from different places but it just gets to be too much sometimes.

Back on topic I can't wait to visit both Night Shift and Trillium, the night shift tap room sounds pretty cool and I love to see brewers listening to the (usually fickle) beer advocates, good on your guys!

We correctly have two growlers, find most of their beers don't fit the profile of the beers we want to be buying now, we are trying to get away from growlers because of the volume we end up buying, find driving into seaport a huge pain and with only one person drinking have had diacytl issues.
I am in discussion with jc by email but it isnt a case of one growler, its two MORE growlers to put alongside the jacks one to return, the boston beer one, the lost nation one, the eagle owl one, the seven hf ones. When you look at your house and see about $100 in growlers and the ones you can drive to won't accept a return, and you don't see wanting to buy more beer from them. It all makes that growler of beer suddenly bloom to Cantillon prices for a beer we were buying blind anyway. Then compare Jack's, Mystic, Idle Hands and Night Shift who give samples, take returned growlers, sell bottles, have great parking available and are more our beer styles.
Its just not customer friendly for a business we have wanted to support, sorry but if growlers are the only way to buy provide a way to return them.
I truly want to support local breweries but please don't make it so hard to do.
But perhaps that is the way to do it, put up a craigs list ad and just sell them. Then use the cash to buy more beer.
I know now I get the typical hate thread for not liking hops.
