This past week i recently bought a fresh six pack of Caskazilla, instantly recognizing the new label as well as a new name change. It is no long a "hoppy red ale" but now a "Red IPA". I was just curious if anyone knows if there is a reason for this change? Maybe a slightly new recipe? I personally would not rank Caskazilla as a IPA at alll. I love the beer in all ways, just not hoppy enough to categorize it as an IPA IMO. What are your thoughts on this?
They tweaked the recipe as well. And it is spelled cascazilla which is reference to the local cascadilla gorge.
Good and drinkable red. Definitely not hoppy enough to be an IPA. They are cashing in on the IPA craze -- it is what it is.
I was hoping to read about a recipe change, I was never a fan of Cascazilla. Furthermore, Ithaca seemed to have lost their edge when the Chief left. They will always have Flower Power.
Sorry, confused... The name hasn't changed, has it? Just the style description? Or am I actually looking for something with a different name?
...and the seemingly 75 different streets in Ithaca with Cascadilla in their names. I lived on one of them for a year and I learned to give very, very, very precise directions and not to even bother ordering anything for delivery unless I wanted it cold for breakfast the next day (if I was lucky).
Yes, that is an exception (there are always exceptions), but my point still stands. I think you know that.
In the last year I've seen Flying Dog Double Dog Double Pale Ale change it's label from Double Pale Ale to Double IPA. Similarly, Green Flash Hop Head Red added the words "Red IPA" on the label.
