Yesterday I had this response typed up and thought it was too mean:

"And not a fuck was given..."

Seems to be pretty accurate now.

I hear ya, I want to try it too, but I'm going into it with low expectations. Had Conntucky Lightning last night and it was HORRID!

Couldn't agree more on the Conntucky, but I liked their other two barrel aged beers. Hoping to try the pumpkin this weekend; seems like there's going to be plenty distributed.

Igor wasn't good when it came out, but when we had it and the other BA beer at My Place, they were decent.

haven't had that, but ive heard it wasnt very good from a distributor friend, so i passed, plus seemed pricey at 12 bucks,

as for crazy, using corn grits and bourbon barrels to make an ale, a white ipa, rum barrel pumpkin, dopplebock, these arent the typical ct brewery recipes, craziness may vary sure....

"to each his own", "i hear ya" or you putting "crazy" in quotes, or saying; i wanted to post this real mean thing but, and then posting it anyway, if you have hate in your heart let it out, but shit, there's worse things in life than TRB

    EDIT
see, exactly, they have lots of room for improvement but have some deec stuff already

White Ipa's were a huge craze across the country 2 Summer's ago (Saranac did one for shit's sake), Avery makes Rumpkin, Dopplebock's aren't exactly a new style, and Conntucky was horrible. New to CT, maybe, but they're not breaking down down walls here.

I just think 2 Roads hasn't lived up to it's potential, and in general makes generic to shitty beer. It's even more disappointing knowing that Markowski is their brewer. This is a board to discuss beer. I'm expressing my opinion on this brewery.

LOTS of room, not much decent stuff already

And for what it's worth, Igor was not worth nearly $20 a bottle (even signed lol).

    I'm flirting w/picking up a sixer after work.(I work 2 min. away)

I love pumpkin ales,so naturally rum barrels sound delish. (6.8%a.b.v.) $11.99/6pk.

If I stop by,it will be my 1st visit since they opened the doors.

    Cheers

The white IPA sixer (fresh, 10 days after bottling) was pretty boring. Minimal hop character, and the finish was chalky, and minerally, as if the water wasn't adjusted appropriately (too much alkalinity). Disappointing to say the least.

(No idea whether Two Roads is good or not) BUT, Do distributors research breweries before distributing them??? Sometimes, I don't think so. I am often amazed how certain breweries make it to distro.

Gotta wonder how Two Roads manages to even stay in business. Could it be that there are people who exist outside of the BA vacuum that legitimately enjoy their beers for what they are?

    Naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah. Unpossible.

YO, PHIL! WHERE ARE OUR PECONIC CANS, DUUUUUUUUDE? DAFUQ!

Everyone needs to remember, they are a contract brewer that also brews their own stuff. Thank them for the increase in Evil Twin and Stillwater available in the area...

I liked the Hefe they put together and immensely disappointed by the Saison given Phil's reputation.

They are on almost every shelf in CT, so wide distribution and they must be selling b/c indications are they are making money just 9 months in...

This thread cracks me up - I saw it go with 0 replies for a long time, and then just now it had 17. "Oh," thought I, "I guess it just took the Rhode Island folks a little while to catch wind and start discussing their excitement."

    Ha ha ha, no.

To be fair to Two Roads, they're really only a disappointment because our expectations were so high. Phil's a great brewer, they've got seemingly unlimited resources, and their facility is incredible. It seems like the perfect recipe for an amazing brewery, but it's clear at this point that they're focus is on capturing market share through approachability and affordability with their year-rounds, while occasionally sticking it to us beer geeks with under-aged and over-priced barrel-aged hype bombs.

I will say this for them, though - I went to a smallish beer fest last weekend with almost exclusively CT breweries, and Two Roads was second only to NEBCO IMO, although I avoided the White IPA. The Saison was as good as ever, and I thought both the Pilsner and Road to Ruin tasted far better than they had in the past.

I understand the strategy, I'm sure their sales over this first year have been great (especially considering the contract brewing they do) and it's fine if that's all they want to do going forward because they would probably be very successful. Stuff like Road 2 Ruin is a nice option to have at restaurants in the area that don't really focus on craft beer and I'm thankful for what they've done for ET and Stillwater but beyond that they still haven't really done anything to capture my interest. All I'm asking for is for them to give me a reason to want to go to the tap room ($6 pints of their 4 core beers doesn't do it for me.) They have an amazing space there with a counter pressure filler for growlers and place to sit outside but I still haven't been there a 2nd time even though it's 20 minutes closer to me than NEBCO. Is asking for something like NEBCO is starting to do with the Fat Ten-er or Cigar City does with Growler Tuesday and putting out some small batches of experimental/test stuff too much to ask? At least do something like Raspberry No Limits or some single hop/different hop blend pale ales.
