I am a relative Noob to craft beer. I have always flirted with it ordering the occasional something-other-than-American-lager. About 7month ago I found BeerAdvocate. I started out thinking IPA's were overrated. After having a couple pale ales, specifically 4 C's, I became hooked on hops. In fact I looked into if hops were addicting. After months of searching for the best hoppy beers and loving it I feel as if I have plateaued. The hops in a DIPA don't do much and they seem to be sweeter.

Is the normal!? Where do I go from here?

You should buy a Randall for home use.

You've experienced a shift in your lupulin threshold.

Think of it as your palate becoming more refined. Your tasting experience of a DIPA is probably more nuanced now than it was when all you could understand was insane, over-the-top bitterness. Of course, there are still some hop bombs that will sit your ass back down. Stone RuinTen, RR Pliny the Younger, Mikeller 1000 IBU, etc.

RuinTen was atualy the one I just had and I said to myself "wait there's some hop bitterness where has it been latley?".
Still need to try those others!

It happens. Many are surprised to learned there are other styles besides ipa's. Many never do.

Congratulations, you've properly burned your tongue in. Unfortunately you won't be able to go back to lesser beer (with the exception of the occasional miller), but if you can quit drinking for 4-5 days you can regrow your taste buds and get "the thrill" back.

My long-term solution: mix it up all the time, enjoy more pilsners, pale ales, porters and hefeweizens and throw in an occasional cider or blonde ale. This keeps up my appreciation of a well-brewed beer rather than chasing hops.

I love hops, but I'm kind of sort of in a similar situation ... but not really. There are times when I just want a damn porter or stout (or something Belgian, sour... anything different) for something different.

And soon! This is not the time of year for that sort of burnout, what with all of the upcoming fresh hop ales on the horizon.

I am in a similar situation. I have blasted my palate with hops for the better part of the last 3 years. At the bottle shop, I am picking through the IPAs , DIPAs and skipping over great selections of porters, stouts, lagers and pilsners. You do lose "the thrill" of the hops after awhile. It's a drag.
Luckily, I also love the fall selection of Marzens and Pumpkin Ales. They are a great diversion for me and you can really rejoice in the malty goodness of the Octoberfests. The spice notes of the pumkin ales will slap you pretty good too.

Hops never get old and searching for an IPA/DIPA that tops your favorite never gets old either.. but I personally get burntout by IPA/DIPAs once or twice a year.. I love all styles though so thankfully there are a million different styles out there.. take a couple weeks off and you'll be back with a vengance!

Agreed. Get into sours. Switch it up to keep you tase buds sane. Sours will reset your palate and make you appreciate the hops much more. As the hops will make you appreciate the sour!

Seek out the following. Sam Adams Octoberfest, Great Lakes Octoberfest, A pumpkin selection, maybe some malty porters, stouts, e.g. Bells Expedition, maybe some Dortmunder Gold, Shiner bock, Sam Adams boston ale, etc. I think the freshhop that come out soon will taste much better to your palate once you go thru some malt-forward and some more balanced beers. Maybe some Saisons, Ommegang Hennepin, maybe some other tripel like Victory Golden Monkey, or other styles like Trois Pistoles, La Fin Du Monde, Maudite.

Try Palate Wrecker. I also have a local imperial IPA that's boasts over 250 ibus. Guaranteed to taste more than sweet hops from those.
