So tomorrow I'm taking the big step and applying for brewing school! Specifically, the American Brewer's Guild craft brewer apprenticeship program; 5 weeks at a teaching brewery in Vermont followed by 5 weeks apprenticing at a real local brewery (they have participating breweries all over the country.) Seems like it's very well respected in the industry, plus much cheaper than the UC Davis program I was considering. I'm pretty excited to be turning my passion into a reality and take that big step into a real career soon. Anyone else out there applying for brewing school or working towards becoming a brewer?

I'm starting to be a home brewer. I haven't brewed a batch yet, but I bet I have talent. I could probably be the next Shaun Hill if I wanted to be. Just like every beer nerd thinks.

Seriously though, congrats on sacking up and doing what a lot of us would love to do. Come open a good brewery down in Knoxville, TN would you? We need all the help we can get.

I'm a home brewer with about 14 batches under my belt so far and I love it. I would love to become a "professional" brewer

Home brewer. This year my goal has been to brew a batch a month. The August brew, a pale ale, goes in the brew pot today. I'd love to start a microbrewery someday, but don't know if I have the patience for the red tape. You spend a ton of money and jump through a bunch of hoops before you brew a drop of beer. I know some guys who have done it.

Good luck at brewing school. I'd love to do that someday as well. Come back in 2 or 3 months and share your experience.

aspiring brewer here. have started homebrewing and have done a couple batches. the second one was great. hope to open a brewpub myself one day but not sure if I have the courage to go to brewing school. Never say never though.

Good luck and keep posting to let us know how it goes.

I plan on applying to this same one for next year or the following year. A guy in my homebrew club did this one and loved it. He is opening a brewery within the year, just placed his order for equipment.

I'm also considering that school. I thought there was a long waiting period to get in though.

I'm curious, are you in the summer 2014 or summer 2015 class? It's a bit hard to tell from the website which are sold out.

I am a homebrewer myself. I am not interested in pursuing a career in brewing, however I too am about to start a major educational program that will help me achieve my dream someday. May we both be fortunate in our quests! Best of luck my man!

EDIT: Do you know where you'll do your apprenticeship yet?

I'm applying for the CBA residential program, summer 2014 hopefully. The site is a bit messy. Are you applying soon? Good luck!
