Heading to Seattle, Washington for the first time today. Originally from Michigan and lived in Florida for the last 3 years. What are the new beers (typically not in the Eastern market) to seek out on my trip to Seattle? I prefer funky sours, IPAs and porters.
Fill in the blanks: "There are __ ____ _____ __ __________." Are you looking for places to drink? If so - http://beeradvocate.com/community/threads/visiting-seattle.10965/ My advice would be to get on the bus and enjoy the hell out of Seattle. You could throw a rock and hit a brewery or pub with excellent beer. It's an awesome city to hang out in and this is a great time of year to be there. Are you wanting to grab bottles? Off the top of my head, notable locals (Portland, Bend, Seattle beer growing region) that Bottle: Logsdon Farmhouse Ales Fremont (you're gonna just miss some good releases) Hair of the Dog Deschutes Black Raven (at the brewery only and limited) Sound Brewing Goodlife Cascade Old Schoolhouse Red Peak Fish (Leavenworth) Schooner Exact Dunno... there's a lot more. A lot.
Try a Mac and Jacks African Amber. Reviews are inconsistent, but a nice amber that can only be had on tap in the northwest. Worth trying if you find yourself out there.
I lived in Seattle for 6 years before moving to NY, I miss the PNW! Beers of note - Cascade (Portland), Fremont (Seattle), Black Raven (Redmond/Seattle), Hair of the Dog (Portland), Hilliard's (Seattle), Goodlife (Bend), Deschutes (Bend), & Elysian (Seattle)....many more. If you want some good sour or Belgians check out the Stumbling Monk in Capitol Hill neighborhood, killer Belgian beer bar http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/4896.
Black Raven bottles sometimes show up in shops. Wisdom Seeker, Beaktweeker and Hochzeit all did. And yeah, Cowiche Fresh Hop will be October more than likely.
We brought our hockey team down to Seattle last year for a tourney and I picked some up just as it was released. It was Oct 9 or 10. Went back for more the next day and it was almost all gone.
Because there seems to be a question of it's existence. No one has been able to actually tell anyone where it actually is. The reservation that it's been stated to be on does not come up on any google search, and when I asked leedorham via BM what the REAL story on it he replied, "It is a long story, one that begins with and ending of sorts. Such is the way with the land and the spirit world.." So I'm still assuming it's some long running inside joke I'm not privy to, or people want to keep it a secret(but then why would leedorham mention it?)....but I assume there's a few out there giggling at my post right now .
Pretty sure lee admits to making the place up.. http://beeradvocate.com/community/threads/bottleworks-visit.104902/#post-1538199 Real dick move to try to send an out of towner on a wild goose chase...
Aha. Yeah, the constant mentioning of Red Peak followed by "he doesn't like to be bothered can't tell you where he is" should've been enough for me.
Of the 140+ breweries now in Washington, my guess is less than three dozen of them make enough beer to ship to the East Coast. Walk into any Whole Foods and you'll probably see more beer than you've seen in your life, let alone going to an actual beer shop.
Whoa, hold on there. I go out of cell range for a day and this is what happens to the NW forum? Guys, really? Firstly, those who know me IRL know this is not a real dick move because they have seen my real dick moves and this would pale in comparison. Secondly, is this canon now that I made up a whole brewery? It was totally Libbey that told me about them and he heard it from some PDX guy named Eric I think, or maybe another Matt, or Dalton or something. I dunno, you westsiders all have the same name.
