White Whale glass list?

Obviously any glass I have is automatically #1

 

Oh, going traditional with this one. Respect.

 

This is going to be difficult to compile as bottle counts are way better documented than promo/merch, and it's hard to even know all that exists in terms of glasses from some breweries - Hitachino is a prime example. That, and people have far different interests in glassware. A buddy of mine hunts for rare Duvel glasses, but I don't care about them at all.

Sure, there's the Cantillon Iris glass, but where do you go from there?

 

Slayed my white whale today:



Had to give up a glass that had much smaller numbers made but wanted this one bad enough! Yup, that's even the uber rare Pepsi Max in it to break it in. Taking it easy tonight.

 

I think it'll be fun... As long as we stay civilized unlike those "beer people"

no no no no NO!!! many a' people (yeah, those beer people) have asked me to get involved and organize this...and i've always refused. my main rationale being that there are still plenty of glasses that i'm iso and although these can be fun, i feel like the spirit gets lost in the aftermath and it becomes the beckett guide...i'd hate to see a myglasscellar website come out with insane prices for common glassware (although ebay is legit for glass).

as i'm sure all my fellow glass nerds have noticed...much like the beer trading community, the glass trading community has become more of a commodity market as of late as opposed to the i have a cool glass (or beer) you want, you have a cool glass (or beer) i want, lets trade. although on a much smaller scale than the beer trading community...i'd just hate to see the negative side effects that this would have on the glass scene. things are stil somewhatl reasonable with glassware, i think that something like this could be the tipping point that creates the 2012'er of the glass community.

i have no doubt that just like the beer community, the legit folks will go underground and the uber generosity will continue...but it will create a giant cluster f*$( on the surface. that being said, if this is happening, you better believe i want to be a part of the heart of glass committee that votes so i can be sure to fight for the glasses that i have extras of

edit: shotgun on running the first "unwanted glasswhale BIF" - i'm gonna work some of that cam magic and give up a FFF teku and come out with an Iris glass.

 

This will help noobs get a better feel on how to win glass trades though!

 

Yeeeeeah now that I think about it the "fun" aspect is overshadowed by the all fine points made here.

I've been running into more and more issues with "crossover"/noob glassware traders.

 

I've already tipped my hand one to many times, no need to broadcast it unseasoned masses, competing for rare glasses with you guys is bad enough. Not to be to greedy, but I was apprehensive about putting together a personal wants list for fear of alerting others to certain glasses.

That being said, I'd love to see a centralized spot for e.g. photos of each glass organized by brewery/shape/whether or not filled with the correct beer/etc. Either that or finally learn how to use Instagram.

 

No shame in drinking pepsi from a whale. I drink way more mountain dew than beer from my glasses.

 

That I can readily contribute to. My goal over the next few months is to #properglassware my entire collection. There are a few that are going to be tough, to nearly impossible, but I've go to try.

yeah me too...i've been redo-ing my glass webpage and have added a #properglassware spot (as well as group shots) to the new version. finding the time to finish up is the tricky part.
