I'm looking to go to my first Zwanze Day. Am I going to need to be there a couple of hours early and stand in line to have any shot of getting some Cantillon? Or can you come later and still slide up to the bar and enjoy a few?

Depends on where you go. Alewife (Queens) was selling tickets to be guaranteed a pour. Other places you'd have to wait in line / be in close proximity to the bar when it's tapped (luck of the draw.) If you're in NJ, your other two closest locations are Spuyten in Brooklyn or Monks in Philly.

I got a ticket for Alewife. Felt kinda like a sucker, but these types of events are getting out of control lately. I thought it was worth it to pay up front for a small package and guarantee myself the beer instead of just showing up and praying to win the lotto.

Though, Spuyten Duyvil in Williamsburg runs a tight ship for the event.

Monk's will be selling 5oz pours which theoretically will mean 200 pours (per their event post). I'll definitely be getting there much earlier than 3pm though since that place is a logistical nightmare during events such as this.

Pretty much summed up the NYC locations, but you're in that grey area "NJ" where we don't know which location you were interested in going to. Each location sort of runs there own independent event.

Alewife sold 75 VIP tickets that guaranteed a pour of 2013 Zwanze, as well as 4 other pours, food, and the 2013 Zwanze glass. So they saw the word "Sucker" written on my forehead with that package. But something something glass-whales.

I went to Spuyten last year. It was a pretty well run operation. They had St. Lamvinus and (I want to say but I could be wrong) Vigneronne on tap last year, as well as Tilquin and some other sours. They sell tickets throughout the day that you exchange for a small Zwanze pour. So get there pretty early if you want to guarantee yourself a ticket. That being said, there was plenty left over that people without tickets were able to get to try last year. My only "complaint" about Spuyten is it's a small narrow bar and it was packed to the gills when it was Zwanze time. To the point where you really couldn't move, even to get out. But all and all, would go again.

I'm curious to see how Alewife runs their ship this year

Take the trip to philly. It'll be a packed house, but as long as you're there when it's tapped you'll get a pour.

Got a ticket for Alewife as well, I am sure there will be other extras for people with tickets... we should be treated very well.

I know myself, Finestdl, and NYC_Buckeye all have tickets for Alewife as well. Pretty excited, should be a good time!

I have been to Spuyten the last 2 years and will be going again this year. The seem to run it pretty well, I would get there earlier rather than later though - especially if you want to try Zwanze.

Do you think they will allow the bottle share again this year? They seemed annoyed with it by the end last year.

Monk's had Fou Foune last year - is it safe to assume they don't this year if they didn't mention it in the Zwanze email? Is it more a matter of September vs. December?

It's hard to say anything definitive but as of Saturday night the only Cantillon bottles at Monk's were Iris and Vigneronne. Last year they still had a pretty big selection.

WOOT WOOT! that's all i need.

it's fun to note that philly is the only town where people would use the word "only" when talking about there being 2 kinds of cantillon [at a reasonable price] available at a bar.

The owner of Spuyten deported me from the state of NY after that ordeal.

Regarding Spuyten, a bottle share is allowed if you don't bring a shit ton of beer (reference to the guys last year who literally showed up with a case) and it's not stuff they already have there.
