I gotta say, I've really come to like the combination of the classic characteristics of imperial stouts (roasty and chocolatey flavors/full body) and the(not so typical) piney, grassy and citrus flavors of large hop additions. These hoppy Imperial stouts, and of course, Black IPAs, are not everyones thing..but I want more of em'.

So I'm wondering, does anyone else really enjoy the flavor profiles in these styles?
Besides brews like Beer Hop Breakfast, and Night Stalker, what are other hop forward Imperial Stouts you would recommend to me?

    Thanks for any thoughts/suggestions
    Cheers

I never really caught a huge hop profile in this, but Founders Imperial Stout has 70 IBUs.

Anything dark Three Floyd's makes except moloko and DL is usually really hoppy for the style at least in my opinion.

Go to example is Storm King. They rock a big Russian imperial, but surprisingly deliver on the hop front as well.

I don't know if you can get this in your area, but Short's Goodnight Bodacious is a great one. They clasify it as a double black IPA. I would describe it as a stout with the bitter hoppy finish of an IPA.

Let me know if you need help getting some. Second ever release in bottles is coming this fall.

SN Narwhal has a good hop presence, IMO.

Surprised it hasn't been mentioned yet, but old Rasputin definitely has some major hop presence. Yeti is also a pretty hoppy RIS.

I would say probably my favorites off the top of my head would be the Pipeworks Close Encounter/Closer Encounter beers, or Hoppin' Frog Natasha Rocks America

Not really a stout, but mothers brewery has a beer in their tasting room thats an imperial brown ale mixed with an ipa on nitro tap and its amazing. Too bad you cant get it anywhere else.

None at the moment that would be hoppy, I only have a cellared bottle that is two years old. It's released in Oct, and I, or other MN BA's, should be able to hook you up. What do you have to offer in a trade? I love all things Surly, worth seeking out!

Yep...six packs and they are reasonable. If you ever waste time on youtube...search Bodacious the bull. The brew is named for him. He had to be retired because he "learned" how to knock any and all bull riders out cold on the PBR tour. Many of them suffered life threatening injury. One you tube video features an interesting relationship/story between one particular rider (Tuff Hedeman) and Bodacious.

    a couple other Bodacious videos:

The Beer is just as smooth and subtle .
