How bummed were those guys when they found out that while they were camped out hoping for maybe a Bramble Rye bottle to come up from the cellar that immediately to their left there was a bottle of Odonata Rorie's Ale being passed around, or that across the street there were several vintages of Kaggen! Strormaktsporter open.

To those of you going for the first time this year: don't be that guy. Also: don't show up, it's terrible. Go to Local Option or something.

across the street, of course, it was basically nuts to butts until like 5pm, there was also some confusing schtick about how certain wristband colors were allowed in across the street at noon but everyone else had to wait until 2, and then at 2 everyone was allowed in. and no one told us anything about it when we bought the glass/ticket/etc. made very little sense to me, given how insanely crowded wlv was getting at that point.

i'm not even sure if i'll be able to go this year (got a non-beer-nerd friend coming from out of town that i haven't seen in ages) but i sure hope for the attendees sake that something will be able to be done about the crowding. i doubt it though.

edit: don't let this sound like i didn't have a fun time last year. it was awesome and i got very drunk on amazing beer, but man...so fuckin crowded.

I hope she's releasing bottles all day. It kept all the beer bros in one small area while those there to actually enjoy the point of the day and share beers could do so without distraction.

Yeah, and how about the guy putting on that red hat, and thinking no one noticed he was going through the line twice!

I think it's excessive, but I can relate to trying to get a hard to come by beer.

If you wouldn't crowd the counter for Kriek, would you for Fou' Foune? What about Blabaer? Loerik? I think we've all got our "price"

But I do think it's really cool that on a day where WLV was chosen to take part in a global celebrate of Cantillon, they chose to open up their "cellar" of those beers to people to purchase. It's not their fault that more people want the beer than are able to get it. Was it so much of a cluster as to not make it worth them doing it? Not sure.

the other thing about the counter crowding is that yeah, it's not exactly in the spirit of zwanze day, but i understand it. i admit to being a counter hanger outer at least for part of the festival (pretty much right up until around the time when they tapped zwanze). many people on this site have had their fair share of 'loons and other rare beers in the past, but the fact is that the craft beer community is exploding and gaining a ton of people that see these amazing beers being traded that never see a shelf ever, and they finally have a chance to get their hands on and taste them.

the main problem isn't necessarily the hanging out on the counter so much as people doing some really awful things to get their hands on a beer. i seem to remember a BA who's wife was grabbed and fought over a bcbs rare. that is the kind of shit that is absolutely not cool under any circumstances. it's one thing to lean on a counter and stick your hand out, but it's entirely another to rip things out of peoples' hands.

edit: i sure as fuck know better now though. if i do wind up being able to attend this year (it's currently in doubt) i will probably do things a bit differently than last year.

I'm married to that women who got grabbed and subsequently sworn at by a little twerp. Mind you she grabbed it and gave it to a stranger behind her who asked for it as she was standing at the counter to pay. As a good husband I was across the street bottle sharing and found out later, not that I was going to start a fight but he'd get mind bullets thrown at him for sure. I still see that lil fellow but I let things slide as I assume he lives a sad life.

My group thought the cellar releases were great. Our group of four made a game of taking turns at the counter and at the bar, texting each other about what was going on at each spot. Jon and I are both in that picture, though I'm harder to see, because I am short. But I am also fat, so I can hold my own space.

Quinnsi, I found the Bo/Luke, too. I had to call in a favor, though! It was fun. I enjoy the hunt, but I love to support you as much as possible.

    Hi all

This will be my first year and I have a few questions if anyone is willing to answer.

    1. Will they sell any Cantillon to take home and do you have to wait inline before it opens to be able to get a bottle?

    2. How does bottle share work? Do you just give it to the employees and they crack it open or are people allowed to open their own and trade swigs?

    3. Will people be trading and if so will it be worth bring beers like Sucaba, Double DBA and aged Pipeworks or are the beers people bring to these things super rare.

    4. Is the whole thing in West lakeview liquors? I see someone posted about across the street?

Thanks in advance to anyone that answers, as you might have concluded I'm new to the whole craft beer scene and really looking forward to meeting other enthusiast and talking good beer.

    Thanks

    1) Probably? Hard to say, but remember: Zwanze will only be available on draft.

    2) There's a section in the back of the store where there's room to share bottles. The only formality: don't be a jerk.

    3) If you want to make an IP trade, I'd suggest posting an offer on the ISO:FT forum and specify IP Zwanze @ WLV. People aren't going to lug beers around to trade 'just in case.'

    4) The event will take place within the shop AND the bar across the street, Roscoe Village Pub.

This is going to be a clusterfuck this year. Please remember people this is a tiny space and maybe 5% of the people went home with any Cantillon bottles. Don't expect to walk away with anything.
