Why not more hype for Bruery Bryeian?

I admit that the Bruery is one of my favorite breweries. Perhaps I'm a bit prejudiced towards The Bruery brews (although the same is true with places like Lost Abbey, Russian River, Founders, Boulevard and several more! There are many wonderful breweries these days!) However, I also must admit that I'm somewhat surprised that there is not more hype "and love" for Bryeian Batch 1000.

This beer, in my opinion, is exactly the kind of beer the people on this site love. It's really got it all. It looks beautiful when poured; the nose is exquisite; the mouthfeel is rich, creamy and most inviting, the flavors/taste is assertive, big, bold and delicious and the finish is just about "bitter perfect."

Honestly, why no discussion? Why is there not "more love" for this beer on this site?

This may well be one of those perfect beers for the style (despite the fact I only scored it 4.75 and, truth be known, I may have to actually go back and give it a 5 for the style. It's the best beer for its style I think I've had).

I taste about 200+ new beers a month (although several don't get reviewed or scored simply because I'm lazy). Those of you that know me are aware that I'm a ticker and that I taste relatively small pours. However, this is actually one of the few newer produced brews that I plan on drinking with some regularity while it remains fresh (the next several months, at least) as it's sufficiently good to be a sipper but also wonderful to drink with gusto with most food profiles.

I'd really like to hear why this beer has not received higher scores from some of you. Perhaps the fact that this is one to drink "as fresh as possible" (as stated on the label) and the fact that it is not one to cellar has influenced some? I just don't know.

Why do you care? If you like it who cares what other people think about it?

I'm just wondering if this will reach the new Michigan distro or not.

Is it hard to obtain? I don't see the words 'barrel', 'sour', or 'wild' in the description...

American Black Ale's aren't a sexy style. If I'm going to try a ABA/Cascadian Dark Ale I'm going to go pick one of the several available off the shelf local to me.

The answer's quite simple really. Most of us do not live in CA and so are not among the few who can get their hands on the beer. And the limited number of us outside CA who do live in the areas where general access is good enough to have a chance to sample the beer are in areas where there is so much competition for our attention that the Bruery beers have to take their chances amongst lots of other really good to really great beers.

Sort of like....why would you respond? Why would YOU care? Very helpful input. Thanks.

However, I'm going to answer the question. Namely, as one who reads this site, as one who lectures about beer and wine, as one who gives multiple beer tastings a year (both private and in public forums) I'm always testing my own knowledge and taste.

I "like" my opinion and have no problem in having and reaching the "unpopular" or "uncool" opinion and conclusion. But, I'm also one to want to know reasoning if I'm in a minority. I try to become more and more informed and I'm not afraid to change my mind.

People generally talk about all kinds of crazy things on this site and raise just about every "beer" and "beer related" issue that can be raised. Here, with this beer, I concluded that perhaps I'm missing something. Perhaps those that know more than me or are more experienced than me have concluded that this beer does not deserve a high score for a reason or flaw that I've overlooked.

So, despite your meaningless response, I DO care what other people think since it helps me to consider other opinions and conclusions; it helps me educate myself; it helps me to consider things that I may have overlooked or simply just wrongfully not considered and considering the opinions of others also helps me to be more open minded in reaching my own conclusions.

Ummmm...you still didn't answer the OP's question either. To that effect, I think Bryeian is just not getting talked up much cause it's basically just another black IPA and everyone and their mother is making those now. Even if it is a well respected brewery, it's just a style that's a little over saturated in the market right now. Founders just released their first bottling of a black IPA too and barely anyone has said a word about here either.

    Because it isn't barrel-aged.

People only pepper their angus for the bourbon/wine/rye barrel-aged stuff, and even then it depends on what it is (ie - Rueuze vs. Beauregarde). The Bruery is firing out so many barrel-aged, "limited" beers these days that it's hard to keep track of them, letting beers such as Bryean fall through the cracks. Honestly, I'm only aware of it bc of all the pictures they posted on instagram.

I think the simple answer is not enough people have had it. I see only 24 reviews. I live in RI and I don't think I've ever seen a Bruery beer.

Is it also the most expensive beer in its style? That could have something to do with it.

200+ beers every month? Who cares about the Bruery, I am still trying to get my hands around that one. So, in the course of a year, you are in excess of 2,500 beers. In 4 years, you will be at 10K.

In the old days, I can't even imagine what level of ranking that would have resulted in.

Yeah, I wonder why someone would want to discuss what people think about a specific beer on a message board dedicated to....beer?

I would go with that. It is probably $20 for a bomber or whatever oz size they use.
