Veteran beer geeks know DIPAs and BA stouts are for the noobs, clean hoppy lower ABV beers are really where it is at. I am excited that SD breweries are really moving them forward. Societe and Rip Current have been putting out some fantastic ones, Benchmark seems to be leaning on lower ABV stuff, and of course Alpine rules. I am hoping to see more from Pizza Port. Who else in SD is putting out some winners?

Modern Times has a good amount of low ABV beers, I really enjoy Fortunate Island and cannot wait for this beer to be canned. I have seen a few other low ABV beers coming from Hess and Monkey Paw. Plus I feel the Stone Liberty Station has been putting out lower ABV beers compared to the Escondido location

Definitely agree that Modern Times and Hess have been killing the moderate ABV beers. Modern Times recently had a coconut and cocoa nib version of their oatmeal stout, 5.4% I believe, that was dangerously easy to drink. I also really like Blazing World.
Haven't had a beer from Hess that I haven't enjoyed yet. Everything they put out seems so balanced!

Yeah I really liked the MT hoppy wheat at the kickstarter party, forgot to mention it.

What is considered the threshold for "session" beers? My absolute favorites lately are Fortunate Islands from MT and Bonzer from Rip Current. I also enjoyed a session IPA from Rough Draft but can't remember the name.

PP Cbad Terramar is a good one. Safety Meeting was as well.

In San Diego, I think anything under 8% is considered sessionable.

Yeah, fair weather friend from Butcher's is my go-to since it seems to be more or less readily availavble on demand, I make it a regular stop on my to/from Alpine now.... Also PP Carlsbad used to put a beer on called Pants Optional, which to me was basically "Poor Man's Lite", but I haven't seen it in forever.... A damn shame really. I think it should be a full time offering thee.....THERE for thee. And Ye. And they.

Most of Societe's Bachelors have been outstanding, including the current rendition w/ Motueka hops. Also loved the Mosaic as well as Publican. Green Flash Citra was tasty... Hoppy Birthday is perfect... enjoyed Fortunate Islands from Modern Times... and if I recall Pizza Port (?) had a Hi-Five (?) that was epic at 5.5%!! San Diego hop beers are the best

Forgot to mention the Stone Liberty Station "12/15 IPA" that was on when they first opened. That beer was amazing! I hope they are able to make that one again, it is hard just having 3 EnjoyBys and then needing to drive home.

Recently had Beachwood's Breaker (a hoppy pale) and thought it was excellent.

Monkey Paw's Pineapple Express is pretty good when fresh, though I haven't had it since their new brewer took over.

St. Archer's Pale Ale could be a dark horse here. I had it at their brewery a couple weeks ago and thought it was pretty tasty and it's only 5%. If Yiga can make it just a tiny bit better, which I suspect he will, it will be a winner.
