Haven't had a bad beer from almanac. Wish it had just a touch less barrel tho.

    Evening, all!

Cloudy, muggy and intermittently rainy here on LI, on this first of September...

Went for EvilTwin's Femme Fatale Brett whilst in the store this week, and just randomly, one of my favorite bands, Therion, has released a new video which is suitable for today's beer review:

From the Les Fleurs Du Mal album...

    Here's the brew in question:
Been enjoying the brettanomyces in my beer this past year or so...
The fungus among us (lol) ^

Found this beer to be enjoyable if not stunning - I thought it a nice IPA, relying on the brett influence and a citric hop profile - crisp, light, refreshing (in a brett-funk kinda way).

More new stuff to come later, but for you Francophiles out there (no, not fans of James Franco ), here's the original version of Mon Amour, Mon Ami, as performed by Marie Laforet back in 1967:

    Santé!

Happy New CANorado CANned Beer Sunday, MK II, Mod 0
Ahoy CANpers, It's everybody's favorite Beer Pest, Bro. Woody with the Order of Disorder checking in for the first time today. Last week, CaveDave CANpared himself to me, saying that he had CANsumed and reviewed several beers that day. Does this mean to suggest that not everyone parks themselves in front of the laptop, drinks and reviews one beer after another with a themed format, finishing only when they fall out?!? Astounding! I am a front-runner.
I was elated to see that someone finally started to clear the logjam of pending beer pics. They may take as long as long as they want/need on Place pics, but Beer pics' approval is paramount. It paved the way for a CANorado New Beer Sunday and I wasted no time in getting wasted, I mean, started.
Since it was a New CANorado Beer Sunday, I hopped in my Dodge Silverado, hauling a 25' boat and picked up The Old Lady, who came out in a bikini and sun hat, lathered in sun screen. Hoo ha! We booked down to the river and put everything (her, me, the boat) into the water. She reached into the well-stocked cooler and appropriately fished out:
We were off and running! I set a course for the horizon and began my own course of action. Little Sabbath coming out of the speakers is terms of "Fairies Wear Boots" and I was peeling her like a banana:
She had CANtracted Pink Eye from my previous visit, so I saw fit to give it to her again (yeah, I'm a champ):
Things were heating up to the point that we spontaneously combusted afire:
Then it was so hot between the two of us that we had no choice but to throw ourselves into the drink:
Holy Hades! Does anybody else live near or with a volcanically hot woman? I am sweating to the point that I CAN now be found in a tub of ice with cold water running out of the shower. I may be back if I CAN recover from all of this.

    New American Strong Ale Sunday

Happy NBS everyone! I'm at home watching my Ohio Bobcats get spanked by the Louisville Cardinals today. Yeah, the game is that ugly. Now on to a better subject, beer. Here's my first new beer of the day, Cold Spring Brewing John Henry 3 Lick Spiker Ale: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/892/46984/?ba=bluejacket74

I thought it was a good brew, but I wish the bourbon would have been a little stronger. I should have another 2 or 3 reviews on here in a while, and I'll post my pics in the "What are you drinking now" thread later. Cheers!

    New American Double/Imperial Stout Sunday

    Greetings NBSers!

Been a while since I was here. Muggy hot day starting off in the greater St. Louis area. Then, after an afternoon shower, some relief from the heat.

Got this bottle a few weeks ago and finally got around to reviewing. A very nice take on the style.

    And my review:

Wife and kid are napping simultaneously, I'm exhausted from Labor Day weekend shenanigans... time to strike.

Full Sail English Pale Ale in a 32 oz growler. 32 is too much right now, but what the heck.
I'm floored by how great this is from a previously ignored brewery. Very amber for a pale. Must try their flagship amber soon. Best unplanned purchase in a while.

32 is suddenly not enough. Why does my beer look like HAL?

    New American IPA Sunday

Here's my latest new beer review for today, Jackie O's Mystic Mama IPA: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/1432/56126/?ba=bluejacket74

I think it's another good brew, I've liked what Jackie O's has canned so far. It's a good, solid IPA. I might have another new beer for tonight, I'm still deciding on whether to drink another new one or not.

No, seriously, the only reason I couldn't wave to his beloved Islands from where I was entering before, is the fact there was a condo blocking my view. As soon as I left, I looked over at the top of Mt. Constitution on Orcas Isalnd and raised a (sadly beerless, I was in public) toast to my PNW NBS homeslice. Plus, I'm a Cardinals fan, so there's that.

No more new brews for me so far, but I did stroll over to one of my local brewery's and have 4 pints of my favorite new beer of the year, so far: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/28281/97261 . I'm pretty sure they brewed a second batch because I drank all of the first batch. I should probably give it a higher score!

After an epic tasting filled with great new brews last night, I wasn't sure I'd get to participate today. But hey, it's Sunday, so I have to right?

    Up first was this guy:

Yet another solid offering from the world's oldest brewery, cheers!

Thunder rumbling in the distance, balmy island heat cut by air conditioning and fan...

Time for new beer review number two!

Schlafly's X IPA, an English-style export India pale ale...
Hops: East Kent goldings, Pilgrim, Northdown, Target, Bramling Cross
    Malts: Pale, Caramel, Biscuit
    Yeast: London Ale
    [IMG]
My first English-style IPA - using all English hops - different from the American IPAs I'm more accustomed to, but extremely enjoyable - had a rustic, rural, hearty and earthy nature that just felt right. Glad I've got another bottle.

    London's own... Rolling Stones

    Cheers!
