How fast do "clearance" beers sell at your store?

Do you shop the clearance bin at your store? How long do certain beers hang around in there? What happens to beers in the bin if they continue to not sell?

Personally I buy stuff in the bin if I haven't had it and the price is right; It's actually a great way to try singles of beer I wouldnt get otherwise. Sometimes I notice the beer sticks around for quite a while though. Anyone work at a store that can comment on the strategy from the business side?

Would never shop a clearance beer bin. Now I will shop clearance clothes, lotions, potions and linens.

Clearance usually goes pretty quick and usually only comes up at the end of a season. I always take advantage too.. you can get some pretty tasty beers for cheap.

Depends on the beer, my shop put out 8 month old 16z cans of Devient Dale's for a buck a piece and flew out. But there are some boring summer beers still on their table for a buck a bottle that no one is likely ever going to buy.

I usually give a cursory glance at the discount bin/table but buying it depends on the style of beer, how old the beer is and how deeply it's discounted.
I came upon some Celebration in June that was discounted $1 a six pack. No thanks to that. I wouldn't purchase any old IPAs unless they were practically giving it away.

There is no "clearance bin" so to speak where I do most of my shopping (TW in the Tampa Bay Area). I do check their website(s) fairly frequently when seasons come to an end, though.

They go pretty quickly... as another poster mentioned, anywhere from 3 hours to 3 days.

I was able to pick up a lot of Christmas Beers (mostly Belgian Strong Dark Ales) for about 70% off regular price.

Best score yet was the Corsendonk Christmas Ale 6-pack (250ml bottles... so it was like 2 750ml bottles) PLUS a chalice, for only $5.99. Regular price was $23.99 :sunglasses:

Also picked up a shit-ton of St. Bernardus Christmas Ale 750s for $5.99 apiece (was $11.99). And, then there was the Delirium Noel for $9.99-4-pack that was regularly $19.99

One of my best friends is a great local retailer. He regularly moves slower beers out by putting them in a bin at the back of the main beer aisle. His customers are trained well and it goes out quickly, being priced to GO. We jokingly refer to the bin as the "beer kidney". It works out well.

As near as I can tell, they don't sell.

there's a clearance store near me that I check once in a while. Most of it is junk that no one will ever buy, but I was recently buying Ska Euphoria just barely out of season for $2.98 a six pack. They also got some Ska ESB and Ska Viniferino (sp?) for the same price. I have bought a few 4-Hands bombers for $1.98 each that were quite good. They currently have Anchor Our Special Ale 2012 for $2.98 a six pack and they have the magnums for $6. Plenty of people hold on to those for years.

I've seen some good stuff that my stores price to go. Recently got some out of date bottles of Westmalle Dubbel for $2.99 (normally about $6), still tasted good, too!

Wish my local bottle shop did this. Might suggest it next time I'm in there. Would like to see some of those "older" beers off the shelves before some numbnuts (i.e, me) grabs them.

Uh...never have seen any clearance beer that wasn't old or bad.
I did get a Tart of Darkness for 10 bucks once...was just good luck.

No such thing as beer clearance sales around me as far as I an tell. Whole Foods does a 20% off sale once a quarter though, that's when I stock the cellar.

I always buy the seasonal closeouts at Total Wine as long as the beers aren't too age sensitive.

Velvet Merlin $3.99 a six pack.
The winter Jolly Pumpkin beer $5.99
Winter Welcome $0.99 for the bigger bottle.

I bought those and a few more last spring.

I've gotten Mama's Little Yella Pils for $3.99 a sixer a few months back. Picked up a couple of cases. Obviously, these things fly off the shelves when available... I dont know who wouldn't buy good beer (even if it is past the "drink by" date) if it is $.50 a can...

Best discount beer I've gotten was Terrapin WnB and Terrapin MooHoo on sale for $3.99/4-pack in late Feb/early March. Regular price at store was $13.99.
