So, I recently got a box in that had a couple bottles in it, but it was also supposed to have a 64oz growler in it. Unfortunately, there was no growler. The other party swears it was packed in the box with the bottles and I have no reason to believe otherwise. This makes me wonder if there could have been an issue with leakage or something, causing FedEx to open and repackage? Maybe they just tossed the growler? Problem is, there is no evidence of leakage at all in the box. I have no clue what might have happened. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced something similar in the past and gotten to the bottom of it.

You'll probably never know for sure what happened. But regardless of what happened in transit, it's the sender's responsibility to make good on his end of the trade.

Idea, check the weight on your tracking and check the weight as it got to you. That should give you an idea of what was in the box originally and when you got it.

    Sorry this happened to you!

I recently sent a growler and a couple of bottles. Receiver got the package I sent, but swears there was no growler in it, but I know I packed the box really well, and wrapped the growler in a trash bag in-case of leakage.

Other side of the proverbial coin...........

Thanks. Good idea. I'll look into that. Unfortunately, this was a growler I would have been sharing at BA Sexual Chocolate this weekend. Totally bummed out.

I guess it does come down to this, in the end.

Well, hopefully you can drink enough to forget about this situation.

By the way, I hope you have a decent scale lol. 64oz should be 4lbs, so even if you unpacked everything you'll notice.

Do you still have the packaging it came in? If there was breakage and they re-boxed, the sender should be able to verify whether the box it came in was the box he sent.

To piggy back off that, you can check the dimensions of the original box on the tracking as well. Although he may have used a fedex box, then you could ask him to verify if they match up.

I recently had a package sent to MO via fedex, and one of the bottles was leaking or busted. They threw the package away! No repackage, no phone call, no notice. I had to call to find out that my package was thrown away. After filing a claim, I got a notice in the mail that my claim couldn't be honored because it was beer. That was over $100 of beer. 2 weeks later, I get a package of cans; one had busted and the package was leaking badly when I met the UPS driver at the front door. He said, "something might be leaking in here." I said thank you and closed the door. Moral of the story, use UPS not Fedex.

Actually, the moral of this story, as it should be with any other leaking box story, is that you should line every box with a garbage bag.

Well, this is quite bizarre, but we got to the bottom of it.

First of all, the guy packed and taped the shit out of the growler, and has shipped many, many growlers before without any problems. In this case, it was a swing top growler from Kane, which apparently leaked a bit during transit. Believe it or not, FedEx noticed the leak and opened the box. They discarded the growler (or the employee drank it) and they repackaged the two bottles in a new smaller box and sent it on it's way. This was confirmed with FedEx today. I am utterly shocked that they wouldn't just trash everything and say fuck it. I guess I got very lucky this time. Anyway, the guy is sending another growler, but using a screw-top this time. He is a solid fucking trader and I hate that this happened to either of us. That said, at least the bottles (which are whale-status, in my book) made it safely. Cheers, everyone!

It's so hit or miss. Depends on who finds the leak. I sent a Lente with a couple pretty things extras and the jack d'or broke or leaked. They repacked the Lente (pretty well) and sent back to me. That was a good FedEx friend to do that. Would have hated the Lente to be trashed or worse opened by someone who didn't have a clue and drain poured it.

I have had this happen when a great trading partner sent me Ruination 10 last year. Other extras were in the box, but no Ruinatin 10. Turns out it must have leaked, FedEx repackaged box and sent me what was left.

I'm surprised they didn't just destroy the whole box/stop shipment since it contained alcohol

I have both sent and received packages that had leaked some and were repackaged an delivered. Ive also opened up leaking boxes on my doorstep.. I pretty much only use UPS and the one time they broke something and I had to pick up and re wrap and ship they were super nice and apologetic even though they knew it was booze.

They don't want old beer leaking all over other people's packages and their trucks and warehouses, but they could mostly care less we're shipping beer. Beer traders are probably some of their best customers $$$
