Greetings pounders of pumpkin ales and orators of Oktoberfests! I hope this message finds you ready for another Sunday of all things good, fermented, malty or hoppy in your goblets, snifters, and stanges today. Since it is after Labor Day I will officially acknowledge the arrival and presence of fall beers in their splendid fullness. Seems that many folks around these parts certainly have their opinions about the pros/cons of all the new fall seasonals hitting the shelves in your respective areas.

Weather in Central OH is still very much summer-like and looks to stay that way for a while. Picked the last of my Chinook hops yesterday. Have them drying in the dehydrator as we speak for a hopeful very hoppy amber that I'll be whipping up soon. Perhaps something very Flipeside-like in spirit? But I digress....

Today is the day and this is the thread to TRY a new beer and SHARE your thoughts about it here. Please grab something new to you, take it for a test drive, and TELL us about it. A good description is what we are looking for while linked reviews, pictures, and other inter-webs wizardry always add to the magical natures of all things NBS. The description/review is what sets this thread apart from the others and is the key to keep NBS fresh, informative, fun, and alive for another 446 weeks.

I'll be back with my own review but look forward to learning your thoughts on what you've sampled today. Good day and good drinkin'.

    Peace, love, and malty-ness,

    Matt

Cheers Matt and Cheers to the rest of the NBS crew!

The hot weather continues in Casper...it's holding back a trade I have with a fellow BA but it looks like that will change soon.

My new brew for today, Alaskan Pumpkin Porter. I bought bottles but I HAD to try it from a Howler first.

    I'm a fan.

    NEW IMPERIAL STOUT SUNDAY

Hello NBS'ers! Lancaster county is enjoying a nice fall preview with a string of cool, sunny days. I'm looking foward to a major (for me) beer buying expedition to my favorite store later today. I only had two new beers to pick from today, so I thought this would be nice with the creamy gorgonzola. I was right, great beer from a brewery with a so-so reputation.

Happy new beer sunday everyone! Well I decided to add a new style to my month of stout sundays. I found a nice little barleywine from uinta called cockeyed cooper. Wow is it good. Drinks like a stout and comes in a fantastic 750ml bottle so you can sit with it all day.

    http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/1416/58868/?ba=utopiajane

While I was at the store I picked up a few more for new beer sunday. I'l betcha only one of those makes it to next week. lol

Looks like fall is really here and that means the leaves are falling, the days are getting shorter and there's a parade of horror movies on tv. I love the stuff I admit it. There is something so intellectually enticing about the idea of bewilderment. I think all horror flicks evolve on the idea of borrowed time. Is there anything scarier than encrypted email? In a horror movie knowledge and experience are somehow separate. Why else would people do the things they do in them?

Have a beer and forget about the cold that approaches. The drafts, the creaks and the noises. Cheers and Happy NBS!

    Happy New Witbier Sunday!

Greetings to the NBS group from a pleasant 80 degree sunny day here at the Jersey Shore. After a couple of 75 degree, low humidity days, the temps rose for today and a little bit of humidity has eased in.
WOW, is it Sunday afternoon already? It's been a busy week, that's for sure. After washing the cars, cutting the back yard grass, it was time for refreshment by way of Cigar City Brewing: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/17981/69218/?ba=NiceTaps
This beer was right for the time.

Ya know, I may throw a couple of these in the golf bag and head on over to the course...hmmm.

I'll make sure to check your posts later on no matter what I decide to do.

Sometimes it crosses my mind that some NBS posters may have a beer fridge as a night table. Envy, I tell you.

    New German Pilsner Sunday

    Greetings NBSer's,

Wow, what a great forum and for 446 weeks. Thanks to Malty and Matt for their diligence in making sure there is a forum for us unique set of beer geeks. For most the excitement for today and autumn is the start of the NFL, but not UtopiaJane! Nope it's the season of horror movie and includes a great statement of purpose and interest too. I love it. But it is the season for me to start preparing for homebrewing and baking. Plenty of good stuff to look forward to. As for today, I still have videos and music to anticipate with NBS. My weekly Sunday entertainment and on-line pub (kinda'). And of course my beloved Vikes on TV.
As for my locale we have a 1 day break between 90 degree temps in SCMN, which made my minimal yard work more pleasant today.

Today is a nice fresh can of German Pils from Duisburg Germany, and a tasty sample it is. Quite drying, or seemingly so, with the spicy hopping.

Best to all today and all week.

New American Oatmeal Stout Sunday (week 446)

Greetings NBSers from a beautiful day on the ridge in Mid Hud Val NY. Worked this morning, took P/T work 5 min. from my house. Now enjoying another great beer from what is most certainly the finest beer part of our country. Today's first is courtesy of the fighter plane (once he had a 7 Dwarves avatar) NBSers in good standing know well, who strafed my porch with an abundance of goodness.

This oatmeal stout rings all the right bells for an American Stout. Really digging this beer,

Ninkasi is such a great brewery, in a region blessed so richly, it is "just" one of many. God willing I will live there one day. Hope you also have a Great American Beer in your glass. Cheers!

    New Pumpkin Ale Sunday

Beautiful day in West Michigan. Blue skies, gentle breeze. Perfect transition from summer to fall.

Worked off some of the Brewery Vivant dinner from last night with a short run this afternoon. Taking some time to enjoy an early fall beer as the breeze hums over the empty bottle. Very relaxing.

Greetings fellow NBSers! This week brought a preview of coming meteorological events, with a couple days of wind, rain, and chilly temps earlier this week, a look at a Fourth Corner October for sure. Iput in a few hours at one of my local breweries earlier today, which entitled me to a shift beer and meal. Nice benefits for a beer nerd! Today started out cloudy with a heavy fog cover over Bellingham Bay, but the sun is out and a very pleasant afternoon is happening. I'll take advantage by going over to my friend Justin's (BA OKComputer) house, and doing a "cellar dive". He's got a large selection in his cellar, and I keep about 5-6 long term boxes there as well. So yes, there will be more new brews, but not sure if I'll post 'em here.

Until then, one of my locals still has some Green Flash brews on tap from a brewers night a few nights ago, that I couldn't attend, due to work. I started with this surprisingly (especially for a SoCal brewery noted for it's hoppy offerings) smooth and well made Pils: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/2743/84048/?ba=beertunes

Seems very "Torpedo-like". Not that I'm complaining. However, there definitely seems to be some convergence in SN hoppy beers. I love them but I'm not sure there is much different other than the labels.

What an exciting day. Football season kicks back off, and I finally get at least one day of weekend as yesterday was clinicals beginning earrrrrrly in the morning. It's still quite warm out, but it rained all night last night, and we are forcasted to have lightning here in St. Louis this evening, so my bike is going to be soaked. It's supposed to rain tomorrow too, so I suppose I'll have to ask one of my classmates to carpool (no one wants to sit in a room they keep at ~50 degrees wet all day: that's a recipe for my getting sick which I can't afford). D'ah well...

I was all excited to watch the kickoff of the NFL season (thursday night notwithstanding), and got through the first half of an ugly game in Carolina (My Seahawks were losing at the half), when my landlady got home from taking my roommate out to lunch and invited me over to explain everything I do wrong. Three hours later, all of the early games were over (thank goodness we came back and pulled it out 12-7!), and so the afternoon has turned to cleaning my room while switching between Star Trek V and checking in on the other NFC West teams (Go Packers! Beat the dirty 9ers! StL/Arizona I don't really care one way or another, just don't let the StL defense have a good game as I'm playing them in my first ever experience with fantasy football!!). First rounds of tests next week in school, so once the room is done it's on to studying for that. Fun times! Hope everyone is enjoying themselves this day, and cheers!!

No images today, thanks TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES.

I'm getting ready to go cellar diving so this is probably my last entry. This beer has a feature I absolutely hate, it's a very hoppy pale ale. Too bad there's not a term for that, like, I dunno, maybe IPA or something? After all, all an IPA is, is a hoppy pale. Rant over (for now). Cheers all, and I'll see y'all next week! http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/2743/47244/?ba=beertunes

Great day down here in Louisiana. Still quite the warm weather, but I managed to get out this morning for a nice long walk on the bike path. Since then, it has been a lot of relaxing and it was great to see the Saints pull out a win. My first entry into NBS was technically late last night (so early this morning). Sweetwater has yet to blow me away, but this beer is worth a try:

    New Rye on Rye Sunday

    Greetings NBSbfrom Southern CT,

Te weather here has been just plain gorgeous. We've earned after a brutal winter and oppressive summer. We spent every minute we could outdoors this weekend. Now sitting down to relax with this incredible brew from Boulevard:

    http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/423/56168/?ba=CHADMC3

I've been drinking this for two hours now. I had not read the label prior to opening this or I would've waited for reinforcements but too late now. I'm just gonna continue to nurse it.

I rated this higher than most of BA but I think that if you 1) like ryes and 2) can appreciate what boulevard did with this beer versus comparing to Reds Rye then you may love it too.
