The Bruery (via their Facebook page) on August 25th announced that RS membership renewals start tomorrow (8/26) and there would be a sneak peek at the beers being made available for 2014 RS. Can anyone shed some light on this - have you gotten the sneak peek yet? As a Preservation member who is upping to Reserve, I'm interested in hearing what'll be included and what's planned. I know for 2013, their website had the full listing in Sept/Oct, but some beers remained "mystery" beers.

Awesome - thanks! Can't wait to get those here in NY! Shipping charges are gonna kill me though!

Wonder why they're including 2 bottles of run barrel aged BT instead of 1 Bourbon and 1 Rum or just 2 Bourbon. I'd have to buy the "regular" Bourbon since its not included in the membership pack beers.

Yup - what I meant was they posted the full listing in Sept/Oct, but some beers remained mystery beers at the time the full information was posted (Sept/Oct 2012 for 2013 RS covering 1/1/13-12/31/13).

Unless I'm mistaken, I think I've read that no additional rum Black Tuesdays will be available for purchase for reserve members. May be part of it.

I guess they're including the rum barrel BT instead of regluar so they can assure RS & HS members get the rum barrel BT as opposed to offering it for sale to those members and they miss out on ordering.

Totally respect your opinion, but I'm wondering why you think this is? There's about 10 more beers to choose from in 2014 than in 2013. We're always looking for ways to improve so your perspective would be helpful to me.

    Cheers,

I hope my response didn't come across this way. Honestly just looking for why Corbet / Greenplastic615 think this is. I'm guessing they want more fruited sour beers, but perhaps its something else.

This is absolutely it, I enjoy your sours more than your darker beers. You guys have probably backed yourself in a corner - as a Bruery fan, I expect new and interesting society exclusives - 2014's Society Exclusives seem to lean more toward different barrel treatments instead of new and different exclusive beers. Rue D'Floyd will probably be awesome but I'm fine settling with the non-RS version, for example.

I can only count 3 new beers that are exclusive - So Happens It's Tuesday, Soroboruo, and Tart of Darkness w/ Cherries & Vanilla. Last year you had 5 new beers that were RS exclusives and 3 of them were sours, which made it easy to justify a membership.

It seems to me that you're not sure what to do with the Reserve Society - the Hoarders get the really limited offerings while the Preservation Society members are guaranteed certain bottles without having to worry about them selling out. The Reserve Society is becoming harder to justify and the Hoarders Society seems to be significantly better next year - it's a shame I didn't qualify for it.

As somebody with a closet full of Bruery bottles and a member of the RS for 2 years, I hope I'm not coming off as a hater - I really do enjoy Bruery beers and my wallet can attest to that.

see I'm the opposite. I don't care too much for The Bruery sours, but I really like their darker, barrel aged offerings and their saisons.

Maybe we should have two different reserve societies.

I'm looking forward to upping my membership from Preservation to Reserve. I've had all the Bruery offerings that get distributed to NY and this allows me to try so much more. Good thing my cousin lives in LA and agreed to act as my trustee!

I'm not sure that necessarily all of these reasons for RS "hate" are justified. The membership price is basically prepaying for the nine beers and a piece of merchandise. So, either way, if you plunk down for the membership, you know you're at least getting your money's worth in product. After that, you get access to whatever you want on the list at a discount.

Even if you only opt to try out 10 or less of the 37 beers on the offering list, you haven't lost anything, and it's 10 more beers you get to try than if you hadn't joined. If it doesn't sound worth it to you, I guess that's fine, but just remember that tastes are subjective. No need to rain on anyone's parade.

Very true, that's the way I look at it. I pay $295 to get the following beers with the right to purchase a select number of additional bottles at a discount. No obligation to purchase any of the other beers.

    -- 1 bottle of Bois
-- 1 bottle of Sans Pagaie
-- 2 bottles of Chocolate Rain
-- 1 bottle of So Happens Its Tuesday
-- 2 bottles of Rum Barrel Aged Black Tuesday®
    -- 2 bottles Barrel Aged 6 Geese-A-Laying

The most interesting angle I'm picking up here is that hopefully 2015 is a better balance between sours and non-sours for RS members.
