How rare exactly is this bottle, and what might it take to land it if we are talking Lou Pepes/Armands/etc.? I can't seem to find much information as when it was last brewed and a rough bottle count, so if anyone has that info, it would be much appreciated. I might even just be interested in having an empty bottle if anyone happens to have one lying around. It would be a novelty for me because of my avatar. Cheers.
A lot/pretty damn rare There is talk that it's getting made again, but with the recent QC issues Midnight Sun has had, I'm not exactly holding my breath.
It was made in 2007 as party of the 7 Deadly Sins series, so any bottles left at this point would be pretty difficult to land. There was talk of it being remade, and it was apparently on tap at the brewery in May 2012. It also made an appearance during Alaska Beer Week this past January. I'm guessing variation as well, but I had a 2012 Berserker maybe 6 months ago and it was phenomenal.
Yeah, I've had some that were tasty recently, but heard there are some that are terribly infected. Thought I heard the same with Arctic Devil, but also opened 1 of those a month ago and it was fantastic.
Bottle variation is too tame IMO for 2012 Berserker. The first one I had fresh was great. After that, 5 straight bottles between mine and a friend were horribly infected.
I also had a horribly infected 2012 Berserker, and to be honest the last batches of Treat, MS3000, and Son of a Beak were all really underwhelming. This brewery for me has been relegated to "I bet they used to be great, don't ISO" status.
I just had a 2012 Berserker last night after seeing this thread--I can safely say that it was not infected and one of the most delicious stouts I have ever had. This was my forth and final bottle by the way.
Out of two cases we didn't have a single infected 2012 Berserker. Just opened one two weeks ago and it was the best beer of the night. 2013 should be hitting stores soon so we will see how that compares.
wait what? Arctic Devil infected? Where did you hear that? I've opened a few bottles already and they've all been amazing (opened one about a month ago too).
The two Arctic Devils I had this year were also excellent and, knock on wood, I dodged the Berserker infection bullet twice as well. Hopefully they can get their QC act together, Berserker is one of the best barrel aged stouts I have ever had
That's just what someone mentioned to me, that SOME were infected. I had 1 at Phish Jones Beach and it was quite delightful.
wait, you went to a local phish show and bottle shared and you didn't ping me? we could've merged forces for a crazy bottle share (in the rain)
It was kind of a last minute thing. 3 of us bottleshared in my buddies car because it was SO miserable out. The rain was literally punishing during the 1st set.
